Have you tried my suggestion above? You should only have to manually install 2-4 updates then MU/WU should work as expected for any other updates available. MU/WU response should just be a matter of minutes, instead of hours or days, with no CPU core usage of 100%. Why not give it a try? I know it's...

AFAIK, the problem is indeed on MS's end, and they do not appear to be planning to fix the issue. From all that I have read, to get around the problem, EVERY MONTH you need to first MANUALLY install the current Cumulative Security Update for IE8 and the current updates for Office Compatibility Pack ...

@xkp, Dibya's comments were meant for you. He believes, as I do, that those were false positives you received. The script he mentioned was this one, if you would feel more comfortable using an addon/installer that you make yourself so that you can be sure what is in it.
