Re: Welcome to Windows XP Service Pack 4

I think your problem stems from the VM ... do you have the ability to do this all on an actual install of XP? Unfortunately there is no bare metal machine I can install Windows XP on... Can someone confirm if the slipstream steps I noted above (two posts above) are the correct and canonical way to ...

Re: Welcome to Windows XP Service Pack 4

I've been trying to get the latest post-SP4 update pack (released this month) from @Harkaz to work, but unsuccessfully. :( I used nLite 1.4.9.3 (which is itself running in a Windows XP SP3 virtual machine) to slipstream version 3.1b of the SP4 pack into a folder containing clean Windows XP SP3 insta...

Re: Welcome to Windows XP Service Pack 4

UPDATE: XP SP4 MUI has been re-upload. Search the term 'MUI' (without quotes) in the first post and follow the link for details and download. Can't describe in words how much thanks/gratitude is owed to @harkaz for this amazing contribution!!! I haven't been here in a long while, and was super exci...

Re: Batch offline install of downloaded updates?

I have found a Visual Basic script to batch install Windows security updates offline in the MSU, MSP, EXE and CAB formats. Once you have collected the updates into a folder the script will prompt you to specify it's path. The script also writes a log file to the updates folder showing which updates...

Re: Batch offline install of downloaded updates?

Thanks @bphlpt about qchain, I was able to find it.

That said, I'm excited to see the VB script that Zephyr has linked to. I'll try it as soon as I get back and regain access to my VM machine. If it works I can just use that and not have to worry about qchain. Thanks for posting it!

Batch offline install of downloaded updates?

Hello, I've recently learned of the registry tweak for Windows XP SP3 that allows Windows/Microsoft Update to detect, download, and install POSReady updates. Since these POSReady updates are still being released (and will be until 2019 I think), I would like to maintain my own offline collection of ...

Re: Slipstreaming 5eraph's XPSP3 QFE POSReady Updates addon w/ SP4? (and IE8 WU problem)

Thank you bphlpt and GH0st! You've definitely convinced me to go more towards the "not slimming" route! I really don't like Movie Maker so will probably still remove it :), but other than that I'll go with: 1. "Raw SP3 installer" + "user_hidden's XPSP3_QFE_UpdatePack" + "IE8 addon" integrated into a...

Re: Welcome to Windows XP Service Pack 4

I have never done so ... but its too easy to just put it on the desktop, on first boot, right-click, INSTALL, reboot! So would take longer to do what you thinking ... so just manual install it. Thanks GH0st. I tried to manually install it but ran into problems as described here . Do you know what m...

Hope someone can help with that question. But My fresh install, just done few days ago, liked it alot! Thanks for all the hard work! Thank...

Re: Welcome to Windows XP Service Pack 4

If your going to use Stephan's, then you should NOT install the POS updates, as these fixes are for the official updates only, so, you would install SP3, QFE update pack, then on first boot to desktop, right click-Install Stephans file, reboot, then you can add the PosReady to registry, to get all ...

Re: Slipstreaming 5eraph's XPSP3 QFE POSReady Updates addon w/ SP4? (and IE8 WU problem)

Thanks GH0st and bphlpt. I've asked in harkaz's thread about obtaining the tweaks separately from SP4, and will study Kurt_Aust's thread and ask there, too. I still don't completely get, however, why you prefer no slimming of the installer? Even though hard drive sizes are much bigger these days, I'...

Re: Welcome to Windows XP Service Pack 4

If you download the WindowsXP-USP4-v3.1b-x86-ENU.exe you can also scan Windows Update for POSReady updates, because the POSReady trick has been included. Windows XP SP4 security enhancements: Windows XP SP4 includes registry updates to enhance security. I want to thank Stefan Kanthak, a security ex...

Re: Slipstreaming 5eraph's XPSP3 QFE POSReady Updates addon w/ SP4? (and IE8 WU problem)

Thank you so much GH0st and bphlpt. Sorry if I wasn't clear in the original post, what I *would* like is to slipstream as many updates as possible into the *install media*, instead of running Windows/Microsoft Update after install. (1) I actually like the 'SP3-QFE-POS-IE8' method, the problem is I r...

Slipstreaming 5eraph's XPSP3 QFE POSReady Updates addon w/ SP4? (and IE8 WU problem)

Hello, I've successfully used nLite to slipstream harkaz's wonderful Windows XP Service Pack 4 (which comes with additional security tweaks) into my clean Windows XP SP3 install ISO. It is almost exactly what I need, thanks harkaz! However, there are two issues: (1) Upon installing and first boot, t...

nLite and NTlite are two different programs. I would try nLite 1.4.9.1, it worked well for many years for me, on XP and 7. I went to the nLite website (http://www.nliteos.com/) and could only see a download for the latest version 1.4.9.3. Do you know how to get 1.4.9.1? Or is there another software...

This is probably a stupid question, but what is the host OS you're using? I'm using xpsp3+onepiece (using rvmi) as well, followed by nLite, so it should work... My host OS is XP... Thanks for your quick response. Like I said in my original post, I tried this in both Windows 8.1 x64 and a virtual ma...

nLite 1.4.9.3 consistently crashes near end of finalizing

Hello, I posted this in the MSFN forums but have yet to figure out a solution. I hope the people here might be able to help?? I have the files from an original retail Windows XP SP3 install disc that I would like to process with nLite 1.4.9.3, with the goal of integrating all updates to date (includ...
