ill be using 64-bit XP until windows 7 is released, and thats assuming it doesnt carry vista's problems with it - driver incompatibility i can handle; its all the other crap in vista that put me off.

the simplest solution would be to use winrar to create your switchless installer. i know this is more of a workaround than a solution to your problem, but considering how close the compression rates are between rar and 7z archives, its just easier to use winrar's built-in sfx wizard.

aside from the fact that its kind of unnecessary, replacing notepad with another program as the default text editor has always given me problems. there may be something else going on here, but for now you should try setting notepad.exe back as the default and seeing if that fixes the problem.

i used nlite to integrate SP2, all hotfixes after SP2 (only about 20 - 25), WMP11 + hotfixes, IE7 + hotfixes, and remove unwanted components with nlite.

my finished disk is a little over 400MB.

Bad source file. check for the file on your WinXP cd (should be named "usbehci.sy_" or something like that). if you can copy that file to your desktop, then your disk is fina and you should re-download the update packs and try again.

ah, i forgot than nLite lets you remove cat files. thats unfortunate than nuhi wouldnt allow us to use the vista WMP icon when integrating, but i suppose he knows best. guess ill continue manually replacing the icon.
