Is it recommended to turn those services off to manual setting? I mean, what does it do and is it neccessary? Secondly, is this applicable for x86 framework too? I think it is, haven't tested it on x86. If it is set to Manual, .NET will start the service when it is required by software using the fr...

This one does not work as an addon. In fact, when I added it, it ended up halting the install with a sitting duck (litterally).. waiting for a password that would not yield anything.

I think this is either a "new" update or probably more like a "re-update". I have used the installer above and it still wanted me to update .net framework. Actually, both the 32 bit *and* 64 bit XPs with .net wanted an update. Yes, I saw that too. Really don't know what's going on here. The KB numb...

CTFMON.EXE requirement and dependencies?

What functions in actual Windows use depend on ctfmon.exe, msimtf.dll and msctf.dll ? I haven't gotten good answers on that based on what Microsoft writes about it. I read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/282599 but it's still not clear to me WHAT its functionality is. (And if it applies to XP64.) If...

The solution is simple delete the swflash inf file and the old flash 6 ocx, since one doesnt need it, then WU no longer lists that. You could also try doing this during RunOnce at the end of nLite: DEL /S /F /Q "%WinDir%\SoftwareDistribution\*" >NUL which will 'cure' your local WU database of some ...

My method is to slipstream SPs and reduce features with nLite, then slipstream packs since last SP with Integrator. This is not a smart order, since the update pack (and other packs added using RVMI) will re-introduce a lot of moot files into the iso that will never get used since you removed their...

Does this one work for XP x64 Edition?
I.e. will it install in "Program Files (x86)" (%ProgramFiles(x86)%) instead of the 32 bit foldername, which is the 64 bit folder in WoW XP x64.. ?

Never mind, I can run
erunt-setup.exe /verysilent
from a bat-file that kills itself in the end. ;-)

Re: [Guide] How to (cleanly) replace a Windows application

Personally, I never use method #1 (direct replacement). I always use method #3 (path precedence) for command-line apps (e.g., MAKECAB and EXPAND) or method #2 (image hijack) for all other apps (e.g., Notepad2). I avoid method #1 because I'm a perfectionist who likes to have zero WFP errors on my sy...

WinSxS is the new system32--it's where the OS libraries are stored. Especially in Vista, where the contents of system32 are just a hardlinked legacy mirror of WinSxS.
