It's already been asked before on these forums, and I've already said no to it.

Fair enough can you have section on your forum for programs that you wont put in, but have a tutorial on how to intergate some of the programs you said Image to into your pack. And if thats to much trouble can you just tell me how to integrate Paint.Net into your pack or altleast point me in the direction of how i can do it myself .

No, I'm not going to create a section of the forum for programs I won't integrate. That's what the search function is for.

Why not just create a switchless installer for Paint.NET following the excellent guide keytotime wrote in the Switchless Installers forum?

A switch-less installer wont help me i'm trying to integrate and replace paint.exe, one more question could you start a thread of how to integrate
popularly ask programs into your pack for personal use. It would teach people how to do it themselves instead of asking you all the time.

The problem is that Paint.NET is a LOT more than just an exe. It has a lot of other files that come with it as well.

@gk

From my experience with this program there is a check box to do this when you do a normal install of one of the more recent builds of Paint .Net v2.1.

But in order to have that selected in the silent install you would need to hack the MSI file to change the default setting from no to yes or to find out the name of the field and then follow the switching instructions for MSIEXEC

This is what I have found so far:

Code: Select all

Paint_.Net_v2.1_RC2.msi /INSTALLDIR="%PROGRAMFILES%\Desktop Publishing\Paint .Net\" /qb
I have yet to test this although I am pretty sure it won't work...it may need to be this:

Code: Select all

MSIEXEC /i Paint_.Net_v2.1_RC2.msi /INSTALLDIR="%PROGRAMFILES%\Desktop Publishing\Paint .Net\" /qb
A few things I have found out along the way though...
1. Try to use variables whenever you can (ie %shortname%)
2. Use external references to clean up clutter
3. Always post your findings :!:

I hope this helps
Let me know if you find out anything else about this.

Paint.NET can be installed silently with no issues/problems. And no hacking required either!! Tested earlier. Download this version from here: http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Pa ... 96481993/1 Its a rar archive and extracts to an .msi file and use the following code in your RunOnceEx.cmd with path adjusted to suit you personal needs:

Code: Select all

REG ADD %KEY%\075 /VE /D "Paint.NET" /f
REG ADD %KEY%\075 /V 1 /D "%SystemDrive%\Install\Apps\Paintdotnet\PaintDotNet_2_1a.msi /passive /norestart" /f

It's not even that wordy...this is what I used:

Code: Select all

REG ADD %KEY%\065 /VE /D "Paint .Net v2.1 Final" /f
REG ADD %KEY%\065 /V 2 /D "%FROM%\Desktop_Publishing\Paint_.Net_v2.1a_Final.msi /qb" /f

Yes the installer will take the "older" switches too, but as far as replacing MSPaint with this version, I aint got a clue, as that was the original thread of the post.

WOOP WOOP!!!

Or you can add this:

Code: Select all

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Paint.Picture\shell\edit\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\Desktop Publishing\\Paint .NET v2.1a\\PaintDotNet.exe\"\"%1\""
