RapidShare, why?

Post by just_laze » Tue Mar 21, 2006 12:09 pm

Hello,

Firstly, what a fantastic resource, i am in the process of creating my own customized image of Windows XP Professional and the update packs found on this site have proven invaluable!

What i do find frustrating, is waiting 10 minutes... 3 hours... 7 weeks, however long RapidShare decides in order download a file that could be as small as 5mb?

Why has RapidShare become the chosen method to distribute update packs, i see that Ryan hosts a large number of update packs himself, surely the obvious packs like Windows Media Player 10 and MSN Messenger 7.5 should be included in his update pack portfolio?

I apologise if this subject has been discussed before, perhaps you all have premium accounts on RapidShare.

laze.

Trust me, we don't all have RapidShare premium accounts (I wish I did).

The main reason I think people use RapidShare is because it's quick and easy. Ryan isn't around 24/7 to upload peoples packs so it makes sense really.

Also, people had to ask Ryan to host their packs. He won't automatically host it for them. If you want Ryan to host a pack, ask the owner of the pack in the relevant thread to ask Ryan about it.

That's what I've been doing anyway.

I'm willing to spare any addon maker the hassle of RapidUpload. All they have to do is ask ;)

RapidShare does not work on NTL Cable here in the uk and thats over 1.000.000 users that can not use RapidShare.. they lot of other places to host files on the net. plz admin remove RapidShare links

they also so the power of p2p. RyanVM could set up a tracker and have a indexing page so people could post they addons. I would be happy to seed them..

Been there, done that. Hardly anybody used it.

You need to hide your http links, force people to torrent link - save you some cash and mean people giving back to the community by seeding. Get all the addon packs to torrent would be useful too!

Think torrents would be better than http for this application, but when you had the torrent links you still made using the http easier!

I think it's more the fact that people want the pack quickly... using a torrent you need to wait until you connect to some seeds and then download.

In most cases, it's fine with a lot of seeds but as has been proven by MANY sites, unless you can host a torrent's files at a quick 24/7 host, you're likely to have to wait a while to get it.

And then there's the problem of people not seeding it afterwards... To much hassle if you ask me.

I've got a 1.7TB monthly bandwidth quota, of which I'm currently using about 800GB monthly. Bandwidth isn't a problem ;)

I'm an NTL World customer myself.

I'm not entirely against using RapidShare, it appears to work for the majority but it would be nice to have an alternative download method available.

Ryan, you should try to advertise the fact you're happy to host add-ons a little more effectively, then, fingers crossed, RapidShare will slowly become extinct by superseeding the service.

laze.

What, an annoucement at the top of the forum isn't obvious enough? I can't help it if people don't read them . If anything, I think you the annoyed user should mention (POLITELY) to the addon creator that you'd prefer them using my hosting if you want it to change.
