What happens when the original SP3 comes out ?

Post by justleeman » Fri May 13, 2005 2:09 pm

Hey Ryan,
Suppose we install these Post-SP2 update pack and do the slipstreaming process, what do you think would be the impact if:
1) We install Windows XP SP3 (next year) original on top of your Update Packs?
2) Slipstream additional hotfixes directly from MS (with /integrate) after downloading the latest VM Pack of yours?

Keep up the good work.

1.sure. no problem
2.the lastest pack then will be post-sp3 pack :D you have to intergate original sp3 first.

So, let's say I have WinXP-SP2, slipstreamed with Ryan's post-SP2 Update Pack. I burned the CD, delete the image file, then next year when SP3 comes out, I can't do this slipstream process?

no good... with SP3, take clean XP and slipstream over it... just like with SP2;
it's doesn't matter whether ryanvm updates are used or not... always slipstream
over clean source without any previously applied service packs...

Top advice buletov, I always take a SP0 CD source, MANUAL slipstream SP2 then MANUAL slipstream Ryan <latest> pack. When SP3 gets released, just sub SP3 for SP2 and slip Ryan's first POST-SP3 pack into that.
And can I also add my thanks in this post to Ryan for the hard work and dedication he shows toward our neverending UACD project.

I personally do what DLF describes (though I just made a 7zip archive of XPSP2 with all the extra folders removed and my modified txtsetup.sif, dosnet.inf, etc already in it). I'd imagine things will work fine if you just delete svcpack.inf and the svcpack directory before slipstreaming SP3. Of course, you'll have a couple extra files left on the CD afterwards (RVMUpPck.in_ and RVMUpPck.cab). And of course, I do plan on doing a post-SP3 update pack down the road :P

So you guys don't think it's a good idea to even slipstream WinXP-SP2 (without RyanVM) on top of WinXP-SP1 CD? Better do it from the original CD?

It DOES Not make a difference at all. Have done it more than 5 times. Same files in the end.

And why should it? Seeing as you intergrate sp2 and end up as same files if just intergrating sp2 to rtm. As you of course should.
