WGA tool removed?

For those of use who want/need WGA pre-loaded in our ISOs should we switch over to using Kels pack?

Thanks so much ryan. Your packs are a god send.

This whole WGA is making me run SUSE Linux on my own pc's It's terrible. Software companies have became nazi's in order to protect a product thats STILL copied and STILL distributed. The only people this penalises is people like me who own legitimate keys :( . This wont' cut out piracy as pirates are stupid people who do anything to get theirs stolen software, you just have to look at the mentality of someone who watches a movie recorded with a camcorder in a cinema with screwed up sounds.........And now OGA (Office Genuine Advantage) has made an appearence in office......

its an endless circle..... activate, WGA, WGA (office), activate (Adobe), Activate (Mcafee), ..... **Change hardware** Activate, WGA, WGA (Office), activate (Adobe), Activate (Mcafee). I so hope to see a turn up in people using Linux. I'd never have thought I would see the day i'd say that but ....

I've already made a remove addon. Will release in a couple hours if I don't fall asleep on the keyboard. ;)

Remove WGA-Notify Addon: [Release] Replace WGA-Notify with WGA-Only Addon

Will put back KB892130.

Have fun!

Hello,
Ryan Thank you,

when i go to MS Update, the site Requires to install the following updates
Update for Windows XP (KB898461)
Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)

but those hotfixs are already in your pack, so why its asking ??

even QFECheck reports that those hotfixs are installed

I honestly felt dirty adding WGATray, but it's kind of an inevitability IMO.

Vista - no clue. However, I'm betting you haven't tried 2.0.6 minus any addons, have you. You know the drill by now ;)

Hi,

Personally I have found that KB892130 is still required even when you have the WGA Notification thingy (KB905474) installed.

Well, Windows Update says that you need it even when you have everything else installed including KB905474 but have not installed KB892130 deliberately as a test.

If I remember correctly I could't access Windows Update without installing KB892130 first.

My tests were on XP Home SP2 installs (not using the Pack) however I doubt this would be different for XP Professional.

Kind Regards

Simon

I've had no problems with KB892130 (obviously or else I wouldn't have removed it :P)

Thanks for the new update Ryan.
I'm a dialupper and downloaded 2.05/WMP/addons 3 days ago, is there any update from 2.05 to 2.06 too? I mean a smaller update?
Or do I have to download new versions?
Thanks in advance

Sadly, there's no upgrade version. However, you could try starting a new thread asking someone to do a binary diff for you with a program like bsdiff or something.

Edit: Will release a "working" WGA Notify Removal addon when I wake up tomorrow, need sleep.

No problems with integration 2.0.6,but I like to remove this "Added KB905474 Hotfix" too

Every (critical) update from MU/WU should be in Ryan's pack, so WGA notifications should stay in the pack, no matter how f*cked up it is.

I agree with you there, ViVa, but KB905474 is actually designed to "break" Windows under a certain well-defined condition and really fixes or adds nothing. In this case I'd call it a critical hotbroken. :P

I'll say no more on the subject. Ryan is correct here for including it.

I agree too with this, it would be more elegant to use Aserone's to-be-released removal addon instead...

@Aserone: (hope you use ExtraFileEdits instead of including a whole RVMUpPck.inf so it can be used across multiple versions of the Update Pack)

Thanks RyanVM for the update !

Well, here is a upgrade. :)

http://rapidshare.de/files/20554298/Rya ... 6.zip.html

Instructions:

1) Unpack 2.0.5 CAB to some folder
2) Start the patcher (it is a free version of ClickTeam's PathMaker 1.2)
3) Choose the folder where the 2.0.5 was unpacked
4) Start the upgrade process
5) Pack upgraded files again to a CAB file

Although I also done a version with removed KB905474 this is an exact upgrade to the official Ryan's 2.0.6 pack, without any modifications.

@ wiz011....

Nice work on your "upgrade" of Ryans pack....
(and nice work as always RyanVM!!!) :)

Will help us lowly people on dial-up a great deal!!!!!

One question/suggestion....

Could you please upload the file to some other place besides rapidshare?

There are alot of people here that have trouble getting files from there....

I'm NOT NORMALLY one of them, but in this case I am......

I would appreciate it and Im sure others would also.....

Just a sec. I'll mirror it.

EDIT: http://addons.ryanvm.net/wiz011/Ryan_205-206.zip

Take note of the fact that this was made by another user, so go to wiz011 if you're having a problem with it.

Post by nowinscenario » Tue May 16, 2006 5:24 am

Known Issues
  • Diskeeper 10 complains about an error with a snap-in. More Information

  • This is NOT a Diskeeper problem, as per the comments apparent in the forum link posted--this is a known Microsoft problem with many references (but no projected future fix, as of now). See, for instance, this one link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915519/ ... or even this one (for a specific example of MICROSOFT software that produces the exact same error): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915091/ ... or see it clearly forewarned with regard to this Server 2003 update page http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=907265#appliesto

Microsoft chose Diskeeper (in a stripped version), not other defragmenters, for inclusion into their new OS for a reason--and it wasn't because of bad programming or incompatibilty problems. Microsoft has broken something (mysterious to themselves) somewhere in their nine billion lines of leviathon code.

Kudos to RyanVM, who stumbled upon the correct answer, though, when he said to ignore this error now and in the future, but allow the current snap-in to run (as per one of the errors suggestions).

And I'll bet that no one can guess exactly what Microsoft's solution is to the problem ...

(I don't know who's laughing harder, Ryan or me...)

Why don't you just remove it then?

Ryan if you don't like to have these hotlinks here I will take them away asap or you can edit my post ofcource!

Just trying to help as always...

Edit: hideurl instead, not that the real url is hard to find, but anyway. ;)

Both of the specific KB articles you reference say that the problem is with the snap-in. The third seems to explain why and suggests that the snap-in must be updated.

So you were saying...

Ryan if that`s the script you asked me about then i advise you find another, there are performance issues which have become apparent recently. If it`s not can you say which one you`ve found if it`s any good?

I`ve tried literally dozens lately and none of them match up.. heh maybe i should lower my standards lol

My primary point was to defend Diskeeper, because people seemed to be more than implying that the problem was created on Diskeeper's end--but the problem was created on Microsoft's end through their own programming: it's MS that's changed something within the snap-in structure, not Executive Software. The fact that some other products do not create the error only illustrates that they simply don't interrelate with the error-producing aspect of the MMC snap-in; it illustrates nothing relevant about Diskeeper. And, in other words, to be fair, one could just as easily say that Server 2003 or SQL Server 2000 or IIS 1.5 complains about an error in a snap-in, too--but that the issue is really of little or no relevancy to the functioning of any product in which the snap-in produces the error.

Anyway, this is really stupid to waste our time talking about anymore, because it's really a non-problem for the most part. I simply did not want people to be unjustifyingly scared away from, for instance, Diskeeper, due to possible misunderstanding. Nothing more, nothing less.

Here's something maybe interesting: Belarc reports that these two updates fail verfication and must be re-installed: KB895316 and KB887606 ... Ignore, or important? If this last, just re-install to correct? or other method to prevent? Oddly enough, although the last is in update pack, the first appears not to be...?

@owikh84, It doesn't hurt to ask, but somehow I don't think thats gonna happen. Did you try one of the 2
removal tools, 1 works with the Integrator, the other one you just uncab 2.0.6, run wiz011's tool, then recab.
How long you been doin' this, you don't keep prior versions of all cab files for doin' a install CD ? Anyway I
don't think you have to go backwards (to 2.0.5). Try one of the 2 tools 1st. You know though, I have a feelin'
you might not be alone on that whambulance ride.

@all

I have obtained KB828854. This hotfix is a newer version of qfecheck. That is the only file inside the hotfix. I just thought I'd give you a heads up. Sorry if this is the wrong topic.

ONE SIMPLE QUESTION (OFF-TOPIC?) FROM RyanVM

Post by datalife » Thu May 25, 2006 8:55 am

First: the latest 2.06 RVMU is FANTASTIC!

1 - Is possible via RVM Integrator add IE7 beta 2 latest build 7.0.5346.5? How to?
2 - Is possible via RVM Integrator add WMP11 latest build 11.0.5358.4837?
How to?
If pass 2 is possible RyanVM WMP10 Addon is not necessary?
3 - How to intregrate Segoe UI font in RyanVM's Windows XP Post-SP2 Update Pack 2.0.6?

Thank2All
Good Work@RyanVM

Well, Windows Update says that you need it even when you have everything else installed including KB905474 but have not installed KB892130 deliberately as a test.

If I remember correctly I could't access Windows Update without installing KB892130 first.

My tests were on XP Home SP2 installs (not using the Pack) however I doubt this would be different for XP Professional.

If the DLL gets properly registered and the registry entries added, you shouldn't have any issues with KB892130. However, MS recently updated the 892130 download with build 1.5.530 of LegitCheckControl.dll, so it's possible that's why people are seeing it now. If that's the case, it should go away next month with the next release when the DLL is up to date again.

Hey guys, would you mind testing for this anomaly:

Go to Control Panel, then Network Connections and then right click on your active network connection and choose "Status".

Did Status come up? It doesn’t for me. Nothing happens either in vmware or on real machines.

It does work from other places like the Start Menu, then Connect To, then Show All Connections or from the tray icon.
