BSOD on first restart after Windows setup is finished

Post by soulkeeper » Fri Jun 30, 2006 8:50 am

Hi .

i m using Ryanvm update pack 2.0.7a and couple of addons that i got all from here and after finalizing the cd and installing windows everything is fine but when the installation finish and restart the pc to the final stage the system restart the pc , i dont even get to see the windows logo or bootscreen . i did 4 cds before and i never got such a problem , im sure its not a hardware problem as i used another cd with an older pack and i got everything working .

i pressed f8 and disabled the restart on system failure and i got the blue screen of death telling me that the system shutdown to prevent damage to my pc .

Any idea whats happening and how to solve this ?

First things first, have you verified that the CAB you downloaded wasn't corrupted? A corrupt files seems like the most likely situation. It would also help if you'd say exactly what BSOD you're getting. It should give you an error code and file name.

BTW, I changed your topic title to be more accurate so as to not instill panic and confusion with the other blackscreen problem.

I can attest to the fact that a corrupt download of an update pack can lead to problems like this. My specific problem was that I did not verify size (my DL ended 2MB premature) and it integrated without giving me a pronounced error message window. I mentioned this a while back and there is talk about a internal verifying mechanism in future integrator releases.

Eventually we're going to do something along those lines, but in the meantime, the calculated MD5 sum of the file is outputted to the log, so it can be easily compared to the one given on the website to verify authenticity.

I can say from first hand experience that when something truly disasterus happens, it is most often what others have said here. At this point I verify the checksum as soon as the d/l has completed. This is just a habit now so when something does go horribly wrong I know it's not that.

You can view the calculated MD5 checksum of the file in the Integrator log. Compare that to the one given on the website for it.

I'm having the same problem using 2.0.7a. I am using nLite to integrate the pack. Even without removing components, I have the same issue.

soulkeeper, what are you using to integrate? Is this limited to nLite or also with the RyanVM integrator?

What version of the pack isn't affected by this?

i have a bsod after instalation problem too, but before that, in the text mode part where it copiesfiles, i get many missing ones.

this is not a ryanvm pack problem tho (not directly) since it works fine as lonk as i dont nlite the instalation (integrating ryans pack with the 1.30 integrator works fine, but it gets brocken after aplying nlite).

the new integrator has no option for removing cat files i think. (dunno if it has any relation).

2.0.7 + 1.2.2 integrator + nlite was ok tho.

Yeah, I had probs with missing files when installing.

I used intergrator 1.3 + 2.0.7a + WMP10 and nlite options = screwed.
Reverted back to 1.2.2 + 2.0.7a + WMP10 and nlite options = worked.

Also had probs with 1.3 thinking my oem version of xp pro was media center edition and looking for compnents folder when there wasent one.

I'm sorry, I think the problem is with nLite 1.0 final. I saw another thread on the nLite forum similar to my problem. Tried nLite RC8 and everything worked fine.

Same here with my OEM xp pro sp1 on integrator 1.3. :? I also noticed a difference in ISO size but I need to confirm it on two different makes with same exact addon packs and nlite 1.0f on both.

regarding my problem, nlite alone works wonders, ryans 2.0.7 + integrator 1.2.2 + nlite was perfect.

ryan 2.0.7a + integrator 1.3.0 perfect.

nlite alone : perfect

ryan 2.0.7a + integrator 1.3.0 + nlite = no go

ill start searching for integrator 1.2.2 again ( i deleted it)

From the reports I got over the years the most common cause for first logon BSOD were SATA/RAID drivers.

Did you integrate those?

Also I'm very interested to see why would there be a problem with nlite after integrating with Integrator, you may send me a PM, go to the nlite forum or explain in short here how do I repeat this issue:
"ryan 2.0.7a + integrator 1.3.0 + nlite = no go"
Your preset would be nice but attach it.

ill leave the info in your forum/subforum

i stoped integrating sata drivers because of the bsod you mention, the bsod i face now, is due to some error, i guess its the same that casues MANY files to be missing in the copy section of the text mode section of the windows install.

wierdddddddddddddddddd

nlite + ryan pack (integrated with nlite) works.

so i must THINK that the problem is between nlite and integrator 1.3.0

Hay Ryan been watching this site for ages finally decided to join up.

Awsome packs.

As I posted above i tried the 1.3 int and update pack + nlite and had probs. I also deleted 1.2.2 so had to search the net for it becuase i couldn't get it here. Tried again with 1.2.2 same setup and it worked. Interesting? With 1.3 the setup stage went a clunk clunk when copying files.

1.2.2 works fine. Sticking with that.

See yas later.

pd: lucky u finding 1.2.2, i coulndt :p

Sounds like a rather odd error. I don't see what 1.3 would do differently with nLite than 1.2.2.
Sorry.

BTW... I know there are a lot of users that use the same combination and they have no problems.

No I did it on a real computer, doing a reinstall. Couldn't find certain files. Went back to 1.2.2 and exactly the same setup and no errors.

thx ryan (tho siginet just sent me a link trhough pm too :p)

i tested 1.2.2 and the last pack and the same nlite config, and it works fine.

integrating with nlite if fine too.

so, something in 1.3.0 + something i chose in nlite, is not compatible or something :p

edit: al the netBT and setup errors (2 or 3) i saw after integrating with nlite in vmware are not there now (but i think they were all related to having the same pc name on the install test in vmware and on my computer), still, ill stick with 1.2.2 and not with nlit for integration.

i wonder, what happend to the " remove vat files" option in 1.3.0 ?

Thats weird... when I used RyanVM Update pack 2.0.7 + nLite 1.0 Final I got BSOD after gui setup
I went back and re compiled my disk using integrator 1.3.0, it worked fine.
Then I went and added drivers with nLite 1.0 Final... BSOD after gui setup
Started over and redid the drivers with nLite 1.0 RC8 no problems.

Whats even weirder... using the disk image that makes BSODs on my laptop on VMware Virtual PC, it all was fine.

What version of nLite is everyone using?

It's starting to sound like a device and/or driver issue. Does the BSOD mention any filenames?
