Could someone please explain what exactly "To help simplify the Update Pack, removed ..." means. Are these fixes not needed anymore or they can be obtained as a separate pack somewhere here?

Those are some of the private hotfixes that used to be implemented. But Ryan is slimming down the private hotfixes due to issues that can happen when using some of them.

There seems to be a small problem in resuming downloads...

This is what I get when resuming RVMUpdatePack2.1.0.7z via Free Download Manager:
10:28:26 AM 7/14/2006 Starting download...
10:28:27 AM 7/14/2006 GET /download.php?t=b7170990dbcbe59ed95da53aa1b086e4 HTTP/1.1

Host: ryanvm.digitalschema.net
10:28:27 AM 7/14/2006 HTTP/1.1 416 Requested Range Not Satisfiable
Date: Fri, 14 Jul 2006 07:28:16 GMT
Server: Apache/2.0.54 (Unix) PHP/4.4.2 mod_ssl/2.0.54 OpenSSL/0.9.7e mod_fastcgi/2.4.2 DAV/2 SVN/1.1.4

- But downloading without resuming works. Is download resuming disabled ?

Edit: Never mind, I guess download.php is rotating hosts and the download keys are expiring... No problem, I'll just redownload.

Sorry that it isn't well documented yet.

But basically the most important thing for you to do is download wpi from www.wpiw.net

Extract it in the Plugins folder that resides in the same directory as the integrator executable. (If the directory doesn't exist... just open the integrator for the first time so it can automatically compile the 7zip plugin.)

Make sure the file structure is like this:
".\Plugins\WPI\wpi.hta"
along with all of the rest of the files and directories that come with wpi.

Open the integrator and select "Plugins" > "Enable > Windows Post Install"
Choose whether you want to have the WPIAddons installed via SVCPACK or RunOnceEx.. or None if you just want them for manual install.
Now when you go to do an integration all of the wpi files will be copied to the destination as well. When you add WPIAddons they will create config files inside the WPI\WPIScripts directory on your destination. If you choose svcpack it creates a svcpack.js file and a svcpack_options.js file with all of the WPIAddons integrated. It will also create a config.js file for manual installations through wpi. If the integrator detects a svcpack.js file then it knows to setup your disk for svcpack installations. :) Same goes for the runonceex method.

Sometimes people want certain programs to install during svcpack and some during runonceex. To accomplish this all you have to do is do your first integration as svcpack or runonceex with your chosen WPIAddons... then do a second integration (Without chooseing a destination) with the other method using other WPIAddons.

During windows installation you may see some batch files. That is because I refused to add cmdow to the integrator since it now triggers some AV programs. :( But if you add cmdow to your disk and have it install to system32 the batch files will utalize it.

I'm sure I will be changing the way the integrator handels wpi in upcomming releases as I find better ways but this method works for now. ;)

I've checked the MD5s (integrator and packs) and they are correct, but I've got this error:

Image

Are the .7z packs not extracted? My \I386\rvmtemp\extracted is empty.

Yes, if you want a completely clean MU, you'll need the WGA addon. I split it off because quite frankly I was sick of dealing with all the complaints about it :P

thanks Ryan and Siginet - impressive release :).

Q1: why you chose 7zip as format over say RAR?
Q2: why files in RVMUpdatePack2.1.0.7z are all unpacked? in previous versions of pack they were all compressed. So does now nLite or Integrator have to pack them during integration making whole process longer?

If the files within the Update Pack are not precompressed using makecab, then 7-Zip can compress them much more. This ultimately makes for a much smaller Update Pack to download. It helps out dial-up users and it also helps out with hosting an Update Pack that is downloaded several thousand times per month.

if the files in the updatepack are not precompress, does this mean that.
a.- the integrator will compress them or
b.- they will remain uncompressed swelling the size of the install disc created?
cant think of anything to put.

The Integrator will compress those files that Windows Setup would expect to find compressed during setup. Some files cannot be compressed for setup to function properly. But this is all taken care of automatically during integration.

Hi Kels,

Just a question for you...I am a regular user of WPI in the MSFN forums and I am quite familiar with it but it doesn't seem to be clear what a WPIAddon does? More specfically, you posted 3 addons above and (correct me if I am wrong) these will automatically be added to the WPI scripts and install on first run? (if I choose to include them that is).

And to RyanVM:

Awesome job dude! I use winnt32 to install XP and I will post back if I have any problems. Might not be until the weekend because I cannot update this on top of a previous update back so I need to do it from scratch (only problem is that I have made a TON of changes to the dosnet/txtsetup with custom files). I'll post back with my successful results soon!

Q1: why you chose 7zip as format over say RAR?
Because the compression ratio is better
Q2: why files in RVMUpdatePack2.1.0.7z are all unpacked? in previous versions of pack they were all compressed. So does now nLite or Integrator have to pack them during integration making whole process longer?
Because it saves over 10MB by doing it that way.
Lumina wrote:b.- they will remain uncompressed swelling the size of the install disc created?
Come on, do you honestly think I'd pull a stunt like that?

No need to redownload N7 just get the new url and paste it into the old half finished downloads properties i did it with my Download Manager and it will continue from were the old expired url stopped.

Just right click download choose properties and paste in the new url

I'll talk to Alanoll and aniperleo (the makers of the download script) to see what can be done about resume support. I think increasing the expiration time should be enough.

The third line of text from the first post in the thread, it's in bold:
This version cannot be integrated over previous Update Pack versions.

let's say I currently use WPI, and would like to use the plugin to implement it at svcpack level

so, I can just copy the config.js and the integrater will automatically import the commands?

this sounds very fun indeed!

Just to make sure, the WGA addon you mean is here?

Hi Guys,

Just posting back! My install was successful! (XP PRO VLK) No setup problems / errors but I did find something in MU. I found KB908531. I checked the Changelog of the Update Pack and I noticed it was added way back in 2.0.5 and further updated in 2.0.6. But I also thought I read somewhere that it was removed due to reboot issues. Are my theories correct here?

*EDIT: Also noticed that the Changelog doesn't have 2.0.7a. Perhaps that is where I saw that KB908531 was removed.

*EDIT: I have also now successfully installed MCE 2005 using winnt32 as well. Same Hotfix shows up in MU as above.

Just to left of the "Posted: Fri Jul 14, 2006...." is a little thing that looks like a piece of paper or something. You can click on that and get the corresponding URL.
