In stead of removing the psshutdown you can also add psshutdown.exe without renaming it to shutdown.exe. People can choose which shutdown they would like to use in their unattende install.

I voted no btw. I don't like it to see 3rd party software is added into the update pack

What's the big deal, you don't even notice psshutdown. It's a great thing.

Voted no... of course I'm kind of biased since I've liked Sysinternals for a long time anyhow. I have had problems using the built in shutdown command at work, though it seems to be a random problem. I use PsShutdown to shutdown/restart/logoff remote computers, although it doesn't really apply to a local install. But that's why I'm so familiar and comfortable with it I guess.

wow, from the comments I was getting, I was sure this would be a landslide in favor of yes. I'll give it another week or so. (For the record, I don't vote in the polls I start regarding feature additions/removals)

I'm thinking right now that to appease both sides, I'll leave it in the pack, but as psshutdown.exe so it doesn't interfere with the regular SP2 shutdown.exe. Seems like a fair compromise.

put this in your cleanup.cmd
shutdown -r -t 30 -f -m "Windows XP will now restart in 30 Seconds..."
This will reboot your machine in 30 seconds using psshutdown.

Or you can put this if you want it to shutdown instead of reboot:

shutdown.exe -k -f -t 60 -m "Windows XP is bla bla bla..."

OK, for the 1.0.5 release, PsShutdown will still be included, but as a seperate psshutdown.exe rather than overwriting shutdown.exe on the CD.

will it be in system32?

basically, change this:

Code: Select all

shutdown.exe -r -f -t 100 -m "Windows XP will restart in 100 seconds..."
to this:

Code: Select all

psshutdown.exe -r -f -t 100 -m "Windows XP will restart in 100 seconds..."
correct??

Not working for me. I get this error:

Error establishing communication with psshutdown service on local system:
The system cannot find the file specified.

Even tried download from their web site and running it and get same error.

Glad to see normal one back in 1.05 but until then how can i get back shutdown for the pack? Cause shutdown works fine on my pc.

oh n/m just put shutdown in system32 folder. hehe
God Bless America

Yeah, you can get it from the XP SP2 network download. Otherwise, here's a download link (this is the ORIGINAL SP2 shutdown exe)
ftp://144.118.199.31:5121/SHUTDOWN.EX_
