Integraten IE7 Beta?

Post by Sereby » Wed Jul 13, 2005 12:58 pm

see the poll and answer ^^

the first beta should be released in a few weeks!

i make this poll because i want to know if i should integrate the beta or wait until the final release and integrate all the other ie6 fixes!

its for my german updatepack version but ryan can look here and maybe he add it too!

We should wait for final release, so people don't get pissed with ryan's packs. We should write turotial or something for those who want to have it integrated. @Sereby, if beta will look good why not integrate it afterall :) but only if its stable and doen't cause memory leaks etc.

Yes, if it's an optional include. (with adequate warning for/against n00bs)
No, if it's always integrated.

(Although the final can be fully integrated)

I dont think you should include betas to your disc if it can be avoided, besides i dont thin ie7 is worth it quite yet, give it time after final release then consider adding it, it would make several hotfixes obolyte less cats yay!

When the final is released, you could make and addon pack yourself ;)

Well in this case IE7 being in the pack wouldn't affect the removal of IE in any way. Because in either case you will still have to remove IE, you would simply be removing IE7 instead of IE6.

Well... with the new integrator anyone could make an addon.cab with only IE7 in it for those of you who want it. But me personally I would not put it on my disk... unless my disk was only for my own personal use. I would never install a beta like that on a clients computer. ;)

Nah i wouldn't put it onto the cd.... from past experience there is going to be a million security holes and reliability problems with it. For your own personal use is ok if you don't mind running a beta. but from a live client site ... unless you want to be answering your phone ten times a day to fix any problems they will no doubt have.

Wait for it to come out of beta, the final release wont be perfect but it will be better than a beta or at least i hope

Although I voted no and stand by it, I'm just curious if any preliminary work has been done on this and what the feeling is about it. For instance, is it going to be a major pain the ass like WMP10 ?

I actually like WMP10, but as far as ive notices the only difference between the beta and ie6 is the news feature and a couple other nifty user features oh yeah and the all inside one windows tab browsing. there all nice and everything, its just that why add the beta if ie6 is still good enough for most web browsing task, instead of addin ie7 why dont you think about adding mozilla or netscape the both give most if all of the features of ie7 and they have been using those features for a while now.

I simply despise FireFox (no flames necessary, I used it for about 6 months so I know all about it). I put Maxthon in my installs and make it the default browser. Since Maxthon uses the IE core, it should benefit from the speed improvements in IE7. That's why I'd eventually be interested in seeing IE7 integrated (once it's final).

What's funny is I could not even install the beta of IE7. The installer was running and it freezes at "Creating restore point", I have system restore disabled from nLite...

IE7 final will be released simultaneously with Vista at the end of the year.

And yes, I will be putting it in the main pack.
