Windows Messenger V 5.1.xxx to add ?

Post by bestofcomputer » Fri Sep 29, 2006 3:45 am

Hi.
I have integrated WinXP SP2 + RVM addon latest.
After install, I constated that windows messenger was only version 4.7.
Why not installing the latest one : V 5.1.xxx ?
As it is a part of Windows, I dont think it should be delivered as a separate addon, but should be integrated in the RVM pack itself, no ?
Thank you if it is possible for next pack versions...
And 1 remark :
if you just waited 5 or 7 days more before publishing a new version of the pack, I think you could get your hand from MS on their latest release of the Malicious Removal Tool.
What do you think ?
Thanks.

The latest MSRT is always included in the RVM Update Pack.

As far as Windows Messenger is concerned, I believe that it's horribly out of date compared to Windows Live Messenger which surpasses it in every way I can think of. As popular as WLM may be there are still those that would choose not to use it in favor of Yahoo, AIM, ICQ, or Trillian.

In short, there are many superior applications that would most likely get more use. There's simply no compelling reason to update Windows Messenger any further.

Shark007 makes an editable switchless installer for Windows Live Messenger that has worked well for me. It's not in addon form, but it's really not hard to learn how to integrate it on your own.

Here's a guide to the recommended method of integrating Shark007's installer:
