The latest ntoskrnl.exe version >> here <<

Post by moataz » Tue Nov 21, 2006 5:54 pm

My greetings for the November pack Ryan !

I'd like to ask you about the ntoskrnl.exe version in the pack that appear like this when you type winver:

version 5.1 (build 2600.xpsp.060411-1541 : Servce Pack 2)

Is this an official hotfix from Microsoft or you have made it?

And what is the different between it and the kb890859 hotfix that appear like this when you type winver:

version 5.1 (build 2600.xpsp.050301-1541 : Servce Pack 2)

please reply me in details ... if your time allow!

060411 and 050301 mean "4th of November 2006" and "3rd of January 2005" respectively, it refers to the build date.

Its not possible for us, especially Ryan, to make a hotfix. Its microsoft's job.

Actually ViVa, you have transposed the Month and Day incorrectly. It's supposed to be YYMMDD-HH:MM, not YYDDMM.

So here we have 2006 April 11 at 3:41 PM and 2005 March 1 at 3:41 PM, respectively. ;)

Lol! I know what it is "supposed" to be, but I thought MS always used YYDDMM. ;) Thanks for the enlightenment!

thanks ViVa , MrNxDmX ...

i'm not asking about the dates and time of the ntoskrnl.exe version

i'm asking about the advantage of the ntoskrnl.exe version:
version 5.1 (build 2600.xpsp.060411-1541 : Servce Pack 2)

does it have an advantage over the kb890859?

and what is the hotfix name that update ntoskrnl.exe version to the above date?

i hope i get a final answer, friends!

Here's the complete history (hey, you asked for it) of NTOSKRNL.EXE updates in the RyanVM x86 SP2 Update Pack from 1.2.1 through the next release of the SP2 Update Pack (2.2.4):The version of NTOSKRNL.EXE that you're asking about has been in the Update Pack since 2.0.7. All updates are cumulative so if you want to know the differences between versions then just follow my trail of breadcrumbs.

EDIT: Updated the list to include the latest known releases.

I'm sure moataz was talking about KB889816 which is correctly linked in my history post. It is currently a request-only fix.

However, I was able to dig up an active download link, but it's located on LaptopVideo2Go. Here's a link to the post containing the download link:

Forum post on LaptopVideo2Go's Forum

They currently only have the English version.

That's because you're trying the wrong number! :P

So far only my posts reference the correct KB article number (KB889816). moataz made a typo and you're perpetuating it.

You'll have access to that hotfix if you become a member of Xable's forum. It can currently be found in the English Upload section.

Once you're logged in you'll find three links beneath the words "Hotfix Share" in the upper-left corner: Home, Upload, Download. Click Upload, then English. KB924441 is near the bottom of the list.

You can also search the Hotfix Share if you're looking for a specific hotfix keloo05.

I use and find Xable's a valuble source for MS Hotfixes.

No problem. I was wondering what kinds of changes were made to the kernels myself. It's also nice to have the latest fix when it's targeted toward my CPU. :)

Thanks for the heads up, tfw2002.

If it can be downloaded from the KB article then it has gone public (aka "official," as in "not private"). ;)

Right,

And could I integrate this hotfix using nLite or can I directly replace files in my source manually?

I gather this isn't included in Ryan's pack because Microsoft do not consider it a critical update?

laze.

The update was just released by Microsoft. I suspect that Ryan may include it in the next Update Pack.

I believe nLite can integrate it if you need it right away. Don't hold me to that though. ;)

Always nice to see nothing special coming out on patch Tuesday besides a new MRT and an official release of an already-released fix :P.

That being said, I have a hellaciously-busy week this week (big presentation Friday, job interview Thursday morning, dinner meeting Thursday night, etc...), so I probably won't even look at any of this stuff until the weekend.

I have lost track of the latest x86 kernels. My list will no longer be updated. Besides, I believe most people still using XP x86 have moved on to SP3 by now. ;)

The patchwork PC I put together in August only has SP2 on it because it's so old. Six gigabytes total of hard drive space isn't much to work with, especially when Windows and dotNET seem to take up most of it. The installation was done in 2005, two months before I joined this forum. 8)
