A possible error in Update Pack 2.1.5

Post by yumeyao » Sat Dec 23, 2006 5:12 am

KB929120
20,fe,ff,ff,00,00,00,00,c4,ff,ff,ff,00,00,03,00,00,00,05,00,03,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,0c,00,00,00,01,00,02,00,00,00,00,00,00,00
05,00,03 should be 05,00,02

When I installed it on a fresh copy of XPSP2 with no other hotfixes applied, the registry entry I got was the one that I'm using in the Update Pack. I've gotten that other entry as well, but only when installing the hotfix on a system which already has that registry entry in place. Therefore, I don't believe that it's an error and I have no plans of changing it.

Like I said, I've seen both values during testing. What I'd like to know is what the difference between a 03 and 02 means. It could be something completely insignificant. But yeah, it's not like I just pulled the registry value out of my arse.

Just wanted to inform you Ryan, no need to argue. We all using your pack, and know how you collect registry entries.
Anyway, I have no idea what 02 or 03 means :?

It happens on the internet, when you can't tell a person's voice inflection or anything :)

BTW, I think I may know what's going on. The copy of KB929120 I had (and used for 2.1.5) is MSI-based. I just downloaded it again and now have a standard update.exe-based one which writes the 02 value.

I'll change it to 02 for the next version, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it in the mean time.
