Please advise on Integrator + nLite

Post by mbruti » Fri Jan 19, 2007 12:03 pm

Dear friends,
first of all I want to express my gratitude to the authors and contributors of this program which really make a difference in my life 8-)

As is it the first time I am going to use RyanVM I would like to be sure I understood a few things.

My objective is quite simple: build an updated SP2 + fixes + drivers for my Intel P965 and JMicron chipsets rolled in starting from my original XP Pro 2002 CD in order to install my new Asus P5B-Deluxe (Intel P965 chipset with ICH8R southbrisge plus a JMircon RAID controller) based system without floppies.

Did I understand well the sequence I should use ?

XP Pro 2002
use nLite to get SP2
use Integrator to roll in all fixes and possibly add ons
use nLite to slipstream the drivers

Thank you very much for any support
Bob

The Integrator can integrate SP2 as well

You can use nLite to do all those things aswell.

Thank you Ryan ... yes I understood it can integrate SP2 but as far as I understand nLite is the way for a newb like me to slipstream the F6 stage device drivers (Intel ICH8R support for SATA AHCI and RAID).

Is this correct ?

Thank you my European friend 8-) (W Romania in EU !!!)

In other words in my situation I have two paths:

a) Integrator for everything but nLite for device driver slipstream

b) nLite for everything

Is one of these a better/safer road than the other ?

My new HW will be here next week and I will finally test these things 8-)

Take care,
Bob

At the end of the day it comes down to user preferences.

Traditionally, I've found it better (for my situation) to integrate SP2 and UpdatePacks using RVMIntegrator, then use nLite to integrate drivers remove components and setup my unattended install etc.

My reason for doing this is once you have intergrated SP2 and UpdatePacks with the Integrator, nLite will then list extra components for removal (namely additional languages provided in Ryans Updatepack).

At the end of the day, it all comes down to user preference.
