XP setup complains of hdaudbus.sys missing. What have I don

Post by fly » Tue Feb 20, 2007 9:55 am

At T-36 (Installing devices), I get an error about hdaudbus.sys missing. When I browse the local I386 folder, it certainly is missing, but does exist in the I386 folder on the server. What could be going wrong?

This is the first model PC we're getting in with HD Audio (Dell 320), so I'm guessing that's why I haven't noticed before. I've tried all different update levels of the pack and they all do it.

Any ideas why this file isn't getting copied locally?

edit: BTW, if it matters, I have checked MD5 hashes, and started with a clean source. It seems to make no difference.

Yeah Roguespear is the guy to ask. He is the one who knows how to use the updatepack with ris. I know there are a few things you have to do differently for a ris environment.

If it matters, I'm actually using an unattended install and not RIS.

As a funny aside, I'm not using RIS cause we're still on an NT4 domain. Pretty interesting for a billion dollar a year company. LOL

I just had to smile at that. :o I don't actually have any knowledge concerning the issue.

If you're not using RIS, what procedure are you using to move the source from the server to the workstation?

Its just an unattended install. Here is the command that I run to actually start the install. :)

Code: Select all

@..\i386\winnt32 /unattended:winnt.sif /syspart:c:

BTW, I went back to the oldest update pack I had (2.1.1), and didn't have the issue with hdaudbus.sys. I noticed that KB888111 was changed in 2.1.3. Then I found this:

I'm thinking this will fix my issue, but will report back shortly.

The addon fixed my issue. What's up with that hotfix that one way works for some people and another way works for others? Damn M$...

I've got an idea for the future, but it's going to require some big changes to work (think HD audio in driver.cab ;))
