Post by war59312 » Thu Jan 06, 2005 5:28 pm

Hey,

Well i just did the 1.04 full setup and KB831240 - HighMAT CD Writing Wizard is still offered on windows update as well as KB885836 - Vulnerability in WordPad could allow code execution.

This was a new install too.

Thanks,

Sounds like the INF didn't execute properly. Did you make any changes to it?

Nope, zero changes at all. All I did was the manual install like it says on the web site. Thats it. Nothing else at all.

And I've trippled checked. Its perfect according to your web site.

Well I did excatly what the web site said but just in case I messed up which I know i did not i created another one. Same thing. :(

And look at this:

Code: Select all

Current Service Pack Level: Service Pack 2

Hotfixes Identified:
No Hotfixes found on system.

So something is up. I did it excatly what it said too. :(

Um just notice it says:

d1,RVMUpPck.inf

Yet the file included in the download is RVMUpPck.IN_ and within it is the inf file. So am i suppose to extract the file from it? If so you need to rewrite the insructions cause thats pretty confusing.

Well I followed the insructions on the site to a tee and did not work so i just gave up and used nlite and it worked ok. NOw just offered is Mydoom, Zindos, and Doomjuice Worm Removal Tool (KB836528).

So you going to include it?

Ok so i figured the mydoom part and just saw you fixed for 1.05. :)

But what about Update for Windows Media Connect and Windows Journal Viewer as both are still offered on windows update.

So atm having to do a batch file install of windows setup. Would be great if both could be added to back of if someone could tell me how I can add it myself.

Good God you ask a lot of questions.

1.) My directions on the site are accurate. Extensions ending with "_" are cab compressed files. Believe it or not, Windows setup knows what to do with them!
2.) The INF was clearly not executing. Did you download the correct sysoc.inf file (like my directions tell you to) when you were installing manually? nLite adds the necessary entries on its own.
3.) You're the first over well over 3,000 downloads to complain about my directions being confusing. Maybe you need the help?
4.) I'm not adding Windows Media Connect or Windows Journal Viewer as I've said many times on this forum before. Adding them would be a rather gargantuan task too, as they're both rather complex beasts. Just install them from a batch file, it won't kill you.

I just integrated it with nLite and had the same issue as the initial post, with those two items showing up (funny thing is that QFECheck reports KB885836 as installed properly). I'm gonna have a chat with nuhi about it once I can narrow down the cause of it.

We figured out the problem. HighMAT requires the presense of wmvcore.dll and wmasf.dll in order to be installed. When they aren't present (like when nLite is used to remove WMP), HighMAT cannot be installed.

So the solution is to either hide the update on Windows Update or leave WMP on your install CDs.

EDIT: As for KB885836, after closing Windows Update and re-opening it, it was no longer listed. Go figure.

Um yea odd just got that too, again. um even without using nlite...very strange...i left those two files and still shows up...well some times lol....

Well seeing as I dont delete wmp.

Well about to test one with WMP 10 interngrated and see what happens.
