problem with nic card after install of latest pack

Post by ozzy214 » Thu Mar 29, 2007 6:02 pm

Just wondering if anybody has had any issues with their nic cards after installing the update pack?

I have tried two different nics. One a netgear and the other a d-link. Never had a issue till now.

What going on is the nics are randomly disconnecting and re-connecting. It seems to do with more of a load on the network, like copying a file from one computer to the other. I know its not my router as other machines installed with earlier update packs are not doing this/.

So is anyone else having issues?

I have seen this issue today on one of my customers computers... but I don't think it is related to the updatepack. I think it was an issue with my customers computer. But maybe there is an issue? Let's see if anyone else has noticed an issue. I know I have used the latest updatepack on a bunch of systems this week and only saw this happen on one system.

Well I have tried two nics. I have elimated my router and internet connection has I have two other machines on the same network with no issues.

Just this particual one. Only difference I could see was the other machines have onboard nics and the one with the issue use a external pci card.

What would really be helpful is if someone could do an install with 2.1.7 and install the hotfixes that went into 2.1.8 one by one to figure out which one is causing problems. If I had to wager a guess, I'd guess that either the tcpip.sys, the mrxsmb.sys, or the kerberos.dll hotfix is causing the problem.

It might also help if people can post any info about their nics. I don't have access to the computer I saw this issue on anymore though. :(

It must be specific to certain models... if there is an issue. Because like I said... I have used the updatepack on a lot of different computers with no issues except for the one I stated.

I'm not around the PC at the moment, but I was getting BSODs related to tcpip.sys after a fresh install with 2.1.8 on an MSI K7N2 Delta2 LSR (onboard nVidia nForce2 NIC) during large file transfers. Don't know if that would be related in any way to this topic?

Possibly, but that sounds like an MS bug to me. I've said it before and I'll say it again, all my pack does is integrate the files MS creates. If their files are buggy, so will the pack. I can't QA Microsoft's work.
