OuTman is partly correct.
This hotfix was revised and released 22 May. The one in Ryan's pack is the older one AFAIK.
Note This article discusses the MSI component fixes only. This fix is one component of a two-part fix that includes a Windows Update client software update. These updates will be deployed automatically using Windows Update in May 2007 and June 2007. However, some customers may select to manually install these updates. To fully address the unresponsive system issue, both this fix for MSI must be installed and the Windows Update client must be updated to version 3.0.
More to follow... :)

v3 of this update is already in the update pack. It was actually released in April (or early May? can't remember), and that's when I installed it in hopes of fixing the CPU problem (don't get your hopes up; the problem is still there). And then on May 22, it was pushed to automatic updates. If you actually download the update, extract the files, and compare them to what Ryan has in his update pack, you'll find that they're identical. The May 22 date is thus misleading because it only indicates when this update made its way to WU.

Also, this update is actually only an update for Microsoft Installer (MSI) and the new WU client is unrelated to this update, even though this is ostensibly an update for WU.
My addons: CmdOpen - HashCheck - Notepad2 - MS Runtimes - DirectX

Into the breach, meatbags!

so this update is already in RVM Update Pack...

sorry for my mistake, but it's Microsoft's fault  22th May is simply the release date of the tech advisory, availabilty on WU, and so on, but not the update itself

code65536, thanks for your investigations
