Slow winXP Sp2 + updates install

Post by A|ex » Sun Oct 09, 2005 5:29 pm

Ever since integrating all the updates etc i noticed it pauses on 39 mins and installs VERY slow. IS there any reason for this after the integration?

this is a known problem that everyone will experience unless you disable wfp+clear the cat files.

Save changed and compress back the file, then place new file back to I386 folder.

Here's an idea...can we start deleting new threads and new posts that have already been HEAVILY covered?

There is a popup in nLite, right before 'the process' starts which says that the setup could be slow IF you integrated a lot of hotfixes (Ryan's Update Pack).

I too, have same dilemma. I have read and re-read any post pertaining to this problem and none has given me a concrete approach to the problem. Some say delete this, others put ; on this, etc. etc. Given the fact that the T39 problem has been giving most users problems, why not put a sticky about the subject and include a step-by-step guide on how to overcome such long pause in the installation. Instead of deleting threads or purely being sarcastic... forums are here to help others, as I was lead to believe.

Fine here is how to do it =

Navigate to your I386 folder, find svcpack.in_, it is compressed.
Now use some kind of archiver app to extract it a lot of us use 7zip.
Open it in notepad and go to the section that lists all ot the .cat files (kbxxxx) [ProductCatalogsToInstall] and delete all of the entries in that section.
Recompress it either by using makecab or jcarles compression bin
(http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?sho ... +utilities).
Don't forget to make sure that you replace the old svcpack.in_ with the one you just edited in your I386 folder.
Now go to the svcpack folder and delete all of the .ca_ and/or .cat files contained therin.

NLITE....

Post by jeronantropis » Wed Oct 12, 2005 9:38 am

new nlite (1.0 RC1, http://www.nliteos.com) has the option to "remove cat files hotfix integration". i guess this is the "cat-files removal" everybody has been talking about ...
