Integrate WMP10 into RVM pack?

Post by nfm » Fri Jan 14, 2005 12:13 am

Would it be possible Ryan? Something similar to evilvoice's method http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=30456 Could you just add mp10setup.exe and unregmp2.exe into svpack folder. wmp10.cab and WMP10.inf slipstream to your RVMUpPck.cab. Add

Code: Select all

"mp10setup.exe /Q:A /c:""setup_wm.exe /Q /R:N /NoPID /DisallowSystemRestore /P:#e"""
"unregmp2.exe /Shortcuts /RegExts"
to svpack.inf, modify sysoc.inf, modify lines to dosnet.inf and txtsetup.sif that are necessary and many others that i don't have a clue. It looks logical to me that it could be easily done. Maybe you should think about new release with WMP10. That would be sweet. I used evilvoice's method many times and it worked flawlessly. But with newest release of nLITE it didn't work for me

Thanks a lot for your hard work Ryan. Hope you fix "Who Lock Me" because i got addicted to that tool.

EDIT: Right now I'm using Bâshrat the Sneaky's method and it seems to work just fine. It's not a true slipstream though.

If I were to integrate it, I certainly wouldn't do it like evilvoice does. It would be much more similar to the methodology Obliviator and Bashrat the Sneaky have employed - direct integration into the CD. I've actually been brainstorming ways to do it, but haven't had much motivation since I personally don't use WMP at all.

If I ever do try it, it'll be simply for curiosity's sake. But if I can get it working, I'll probably make a special update pack with it included in it. Don't count on it any time soon, though.

As for WhoLockMe, I'd love to include it again, but the developer hasn't even responded to my email a week after I sent it, so I'm not holding out hope he will.

you can do it yourself just use Bâshrat the Sneaky script to do it.

Although I'm currently using Bashrat's slipstreamer to do this, it'd be nice to see as an addition to your already excellent update pack.
AFAIK, the current WXPSP2 Retail CDs already have WMP10 integrated...wouldn't want to be behind M$ on this one.

Only Media Center 2005 has WMP10 integrated.

BtS's WMP10 integration method can easily be combined with RyanVM's update pack - all the files created by BtS's script need to be placed in the i386 folder. I ran BtS's script from the above post to create the WMP10 cabs, made the required changes to hivedef.inf and copied it into the WMP10 cab folder, and just copied all files from the WMP10 cab folder into my RyanVM update pack cab file. Then I extracted the whole thing into i386 on my CD folder. WMP10 installed with no problems.

Of course, this comes with one caveat - you want to make sure you keep the wmvcore.dl_ file from RyanVM's update pack - the one created by BtS' script is the old version (version 10.0.3646), whereas RyanVM's is 10.0.3651.

(I like being too sick to go to work - it gives me free time to mess around with this stuff - although the being sick part really bites!)

Don't go thinking I'm going to attempt this any time soon. I have no use for it myself, so it'll be when I have nothing better to do.

If any of you feel like tackling it, here are my thoughts:
1.) Use modify wmp10.inf and other INFs included to make a new wmp.inf and replace wmp.inf on the CD with it.
2.) Add CAT files to svcpack.inf so WFP protects the updated files.
3.) Add any updated WMP10 files to the package.

Obviously, the hardest step is #1. I personally think Obliviator/BtS' method is nice, but it isn't a real slipstream. Features are missing and Windows thinks the files are foreign. If I'm going to integrate WMP10, that is not acceptable to me.

That's all :P

So by saying "Features are missing" Are you saying that some files missing? Right now I'm looking through WMP10.inf and other inf. AND forgot to mention, WMP is a very good player; also a part of Windows.

@ Kamil -

How does this differ from the BtS WMP10 method? I've done his method a couple of times now, and I've noticed the things missing from WMP10 (music stores, mainly) are things I've never used in WMP anyway.

Are you shooting for a true full integration, with full functionality, or just a "close enough" functionality?

Yes, only difference between mine and BtS WMP10 method is that i tried to add all files that were inside mp10setup.exe I thought it might solve those problems with functionalities but sadly i didn't accomplish anything, nada, zilch. I also tried wmp.inf mrom mce2005, still no fuctionalities. I think that I'm done. At least files were protected :D :D Anybody accomplished true slipstream? I'm sure Ryan would only if he had some spare time 8) But he doesn't like WMP10 at all

If anybody is concerned about functionalities, I discovered what caused online stores to disapper while using Bashrat the Sneaky method. You have to add wmlaunch.exe from mp10setup.exe to I386 and it will solve this problem. Just make a cab of that file. I believe Bashrat's script will be updated soon. You can use this to create cab

Code: Select all

rem Compressing Files
for /f %%i in ('dir Compress /b') do makecab /D CompressionType=LZX /D CompressionMemory=21 Compress\%%i
Just put a file in "Compress" folder and run the cmd.

Remove .infs entries in main .inf along with files for these hotfixes:

KB887078
KB888407
KB885353
KB886610

(To determine what files to delete read hotfixes description in the RVMUpPck.inf, just hit "ctrl + F")

EDIT : or just put ; in front of hotfixes where AddReg section is so the inf doesn't get executed.
Example: AddReg=;KB886610.AddReg

Delete compressed cats in svcpack folder and remove entries for .cats in svcpack.inf file

@war59312, your RVMUpPck.inf looks good. I still can't believe that you can't get this to work. if you have any patience please do following steps:

FOR Media Center Edition 2005 Users

THIS METHOD WAS TESTED TO WORK

- Pop your MCE to CD-ROM, and copy all files do HDD, pop in second CD and do the same.

- Then, delete "LANG" folder in I386, delete VALUEADD at root, delete all files at MCECD\SUPPORT\TOOLS except DEPLOY.CAB (may come handy), delete this whole folder MCECD\cmpnents\tabletpc

DO NOT DELETE THIS FOLDER: MCECD\cmpnents\netfx

With that you should fit MCE on one CD. That's my goal.

- Obtain and extract RVMUpdatePack1.2Full.cab

- Move your modified RVMUpPck.in_ to extarcted pack (RVMUpdatePack1.2Full folder) war59312

Remove .infs entries in RVMUpPck.inf along with files for these hotfixes:
- KB887078
- KB888407
- KB885353
- KB886610

[Or just get war59312's RVMUpPck.inf http://www.willsdownloads.com/RVMUpPck.in_ , I did not test this one so be careful]

(To determine what files to delete read hotfixes description in the RVMUpPck.inf, just hit "ctrl + F")

- In RVMUpdatePack1.2Full folder delete following files (Very Important)
- wmvcore.dll
- wmp.dll
- wmnetmgr.dll
- drmv2clt.dll

- Delete these .cats from svcpack folder in RVMUpdatePack1.2Full folder
- KB887078.cat
- KB888407.cat
- KB885353.cat
- KB886610.cat

- Remove entries in svcpack.in_ for these .cats
- KB887078.cat
- KB888407.cat
- KB885353.cat
- KB886610.cat

- And then follow Ryan's instructions to successfully integrate his pack. Do it manually! I also use MCE sometimes, I tested everything and it works.

If that doen't help you @war59312, then I don't know.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FOR XP USERS

- Follow same steps as for MCE, then:

- Obtain lastest WMP10, dated 2\15\05 link

- Extract it somewhere

- Deleting part, those files should be deleted from extracted MP10Setup.exe

- Delete all .inf files inside (15 of them), just hit Ctrl + F and type ".inf" in the search box. You may repeat those steps for other files

- Delete control.xml

- Delete all Synpl**.wpl (12 of them), type syncpl in search box

- Delete eula.txt

- Delete wmp10.chm, wmperr10.chm

- Delete msnlogo.png, msnsmall.png

Move all .cat files somwhere

You should end up with 89 files.

Now create a folder (lets say Temp), create there folder named "Compress" and folder named "I386"
Move all your 89 files to "Compress" folder.
Create a file named makeacab.cmd inside Temp folder, enter this to that file:

Code: Select all

rem Compressing Files
for /f %%i in ('dir Compress /b') do makecab /D CompressionType=LZX /D CompressionMemory=21 Compress\%%i
Run makeacab.cmd and move all files from root of Temp folder to I386 (so you know it goes to I386)

Last step is just to copy over files from \Temp\I386 to I386 in Windows Folder

If you want your files to protected, move all .cats (10 of them) to svcpack folder in XPCD\i386\svcpack
and add entries to them in svcpack.inf

Code: Select all

[ProductCatalogsToInstall]
codecs10.cat
DRM10.cat
MPCD10.cat
MPPRE10.cat
MPSTUB10.cat
WMDM10.cat
WMFSDK10.cat
WMP10.cat
WMSET10.cat
WPD10.cat
You can also cab .cats if you want to save some space.

You'll probably want to remove the specific registry entries related to those hotfixes from RVMUpPck.inf as well

I wanna remove wmp9 updates and integrate wmp10 updates in update pack 1.2.2?

I made:

1) replace wmp9 with wmp10 in wxp\i386 using WMP10_Slipstreamer_V11.cmd

2) remove KB884723, KB885353, KB886610, KB887078 and KB892313
cat-files from RVMUpdatePack1.2.2Lite.cab\svcpack catalog

2) remove KB884723, KB885353, KB886610, KB887078 and KB892313
cat-files entries from RVMUpdatePack1.2.2Lite.cab\svcpack.in_\svcpack.inf

3) remove wmspdmoe.dl_, wmspdmod.dl_, wmnetmgr.dl_, drmv2clt.dl_,
wmvcore.dl_, wmp.dl_ from RVMUpdatePack1.2.2Lite.cab\ catalog

4) remove KB884723, KB885353, KB886610, KB887078 and KB892313
AddReg sections from RVMUpdatePack1.2.2Lite.cab\RVMUpPck.in_\RVMUpPck.inf

My 1st question:
Is the KB895181 update (with mp4sdmod.dll) also need removed?
And - may be I must have more than this fixies to remove?

I need integrate KB885353 and KB892313 updates into update pack 1.2.2.

My 2nd question:
KB885353 and KB892313 - it's full update list for wmp10?

I also made:

1) packed the kb895181.cat and KB885353.cat into kb895181.ca_ and KB885353.ca_
and placed thay into RVMUpdatePack1.2.2Lite.cab\ catalog

2) packed the wmnetmgr.dll and wmp.dll from KB885353 and KB892313 and
placed into wmnetmgr.dl_ and wmp.dl_

My last general questions:
I don't know, how I must to right create AddReg sections for this
updates in RVMUpdatePack1.2.2Lite.cab\RVMUpPck.in_\RVMUpPck.inf :(
And - what also I forget make for this replace? :)

Can your help me?

@Yuki

You may want to use No-WMP Full inf file on Ryan page. So there's no entries for MWP9 in it
My 1st question:
Is the KB895181 update (with mp4sdmod.dll) also need removed?

No, you do not need to remove this. That hotfix apllies to:
• Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series
• Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series
• Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series
• Microsoft Windows Media Player 10
I need integrate KB885353 and KB892313 updates into update pack 1.2.2.
Get them and extract the by using /x:path switch (ex: KB892313.exe /x:C:\KB892313\) find the fiule in it along with .cat and add them to pack and svcpack.inf

And the Reg, that's what mine is:

Code: Select all

[WMP10.AddReg]
HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows Media Player 10\KB885353","PackageName",0,"Windows Media Player 10 Hotfix - KB885353"

@Kamil

Thank you very much!
I'm use inf from msi31lite-nowmp.rar now. It's correct for RVMUpdatePack1.2.2Lite.cab ?

But in inf from msi31lite-nowmp.rar REMOVED KB895181 update (with mp4sdmod.dll). I also must add it, right?
