Where can I find this redistributable?SelfMan wrote:Ah sorry... mea culpa... I've done more setups and mixed them up.posttoast wrote:I just tried MU: no .NET 3.0. It did show .NET 1.1 en 2.0, but that's not new.
Are you 100% sure that it's 3.0 you are seeing?
You are right... the .NET 3.0 is not displayed.
But, who cares as we have the AIO addon or the redistributable 3.5 (which includes 2.0SP1+3.0SP1+3.5). I install that stuff by default.

On the page http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... 8D977D32A6 you'll find a link for "Full Redistributable Package" closer to the bottom of the page: http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... etfx35.exe. 197.2 MB.

I think they consider 2.0 and above much more efficient than 1.x.
Also, FYI, SP3 showed up as an Automatic Update for me today.[/quote]
Yeah, there probably aren't many applications left that depend on .NET 1.x. However: does it have any impact on your system performance if you *do* install it? I think the framework is only loaded when it is needed, so the only thing you sacrifice is harddiskspace.
I've considered .NET 1.x obsolete for a long time.posttoast wrote:Why didn't they include 1.1 in there? Is it more or less obsolete now?

AFAIK system performance wouldn't degrade just by installing it. There was something I noticed with ATI's Catalyst Control Center a couple of years ago, though. If I only had .NET 2.0 installed, it would use that, and it would be "faster". However if I then installed .NET 1.x for some other application that specifically needed it, ATI's CCC would then revert back to using 1.x and it would be slower. I have no idea if it still does this since I started using DriverPacks and I choose to install the old ATI Control Panel interface, which is much faster than CCC no matter what.
I don't know if any other applications behave the same with the .NET 2.0 to 1.x downgrade.

Eric Clapton has left the building.
I don't really consider him to be god anyway.

I believe MS is only requiring that OEMs to stop shipping new computers with XP at the end of this month. MS will continue to sell retail versions until the end of the year. I don't know if they will be SP3 though --I suspect not.5eraph wrote:Not at retail if their plan to discontinue XP next month succeeds. It may be possible to download an ISO from MSDN if you're a member.
