I've also seen a few instances in previous TheHotfix packages where they had older versions of the hotfixes in their packages too. I suppose it could go the other way too. If you REALLY want to be thorough, extract them all and compare file versions :P

Yep i`ve seen that too, TBO you might seen it on the share also because it`s impossible to constantly check their current.

Personnally I would only install ENU hotfixes on a english xp, as the files are meant for their own language of the os.

Xable are you on a break atm? I wanna mess with some more fixes

KB909195 is no WinXp fix! the file dosnt exist on CD and in no CAB file. and the fileversion in the KB article is the following:
5.2.3790.2631

for XP it should be
5.1.2600.2631

Are you sure it isn't just a typo in the KB article? Since according to the article it definitely applies to Windows XP Pro.

KB885932.exe v2
KB887823.exe v2
KB890048.exe v2
KB890644.exe v2
KB890837.exe v3
KB890927.exe v3

KB892559.exe v2
KB893226.exe v2
KB893605.exe v2
KB895406.exe v4
KB896256.exe v3
KB896344.exe v2

Does anybody now how to learn that there is a new version of some old hotfix? It seems Microsoft just silently releases them... or not?

When MS releases a new version of a hotfix, they also update the version of the knowledgebase article.
Therefore it show up in the RSS feeds. So if you monitor those, you should be good.

I agree Petr, have been leaving them on with new fixes but wasn`t aware of how to find out the version for the rest.

Nazgul, So if i understand right the second digit of the Revision on the KB is the version of the hotfix.

But, how do you determine what version the hotfix is? Because most of the KB articles list a lower version number than the actual files in the hotfix!

The knowledge base article version isn't a one-on-one mapping to the hotfix version.

In general Microsoft increased the major number on a hotfix change and the minor number on a textual change. But unfortunately i've seen a lot of deviations from this scheme.

I usually save a copy of the knowledge base article when I receive a hotfix. When the knowledge base article is updated I compare those 2 versions. The outcome of that comparison usually tells you if it's just a textual change or if it could be worthwile to contact Microsoft. (For instance, no changes in the article, but a version change)

Just display properties - version. I believe it is correct - it was correct for all hothixes I checked so far. For version displaying of more files it is possible to use getver utility from http://free.prohosting.com/~ladi/e_cmd32.html or filever utility from this MS http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913111
Newer version (5.2.3754.0) of filenifo.exe is contained in http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... /mpedp.exe

I`ll update the version numbers now. BTW filever.exe is very handy, thanx.

Sereby - it would be advantageous to you if you would actually try installing the hotfix with a system monitor to see what it does before asking questions. If you had done so, you'd see that it changes 3 regisry entries related to the Australian time zones.

No, do your own work. There's all kinds of registry change trackers out there, many of which have been linked to from this forum. Heck, if I remember correctly, there's a thread for it in General Discussion.

Being able to track registry changes is a skill you should have if you're making your own pack.
