KB893249 - Device Manager malfunctions after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2

Is this one necessary for integration? I can't find the fixccs.exe on my Windows XP CD.
Your right that file is used by SP2 installer. The new file in the hotfix cleans up some temp reg keys that the old file failed to remove after manualy installing SP2 on a current system. IMO it`s not needed.

I completed the list now.

Ryan, please verify this and if possible write more hotfix numbers down to request :)

Will your next update pack contain also the updates in RED?

No, but if you have any new one's not in the WMP10 add-on pack please report. Also hotfixes for WMP9 are still popular :P

Does anyone actually request hotfixes?

There are now 12 (actually 11) hotfixes to get requested. Maybe it's time for a vote. Since Microsoft won't bring out Service Pack 3 before releasing Windows Vista we should continue this project.

I personally don't collect hotfixes. That's the reason Dutch Update pack contains less fixes than RyanVM's one.

MS changed their Support scheme a few weeks back. You now have to pay 35$ for each email request.

I haven't seen either 891122 or 888656 anywhere, has this been implemented? These patches make it possible to view WMV content using hardware acceleration while using WMP-10. If not I need to go download these and install them.

edit:

I see the 888656 one is in the WMP add-on pack, but what about the 891122, was that included with it as well?

I was still requesting hotfixes, but nor i or ryan need them anymore so don`t see much point... unless we are going to make them publicly available from a central point where everyone can contribute to the archive and help maintain it.

891122 is wmp runtimes 9.5 and contains files that are already in wmp10 setup. so this one is not needed if u have wmp10 installed.

Well, people are more than welcome to create their own addons which contain unofficial hotfixes. I just am not planning on putting them in the main pack anymore. I think this thread still serves a useful purpose, even if it's not what it was originally intended for.

An optional hotfix package would be a good idea.

I'll see if I can split up the Dutch package. Please keep requesting the hotfixes :D

How about updatepak option in opposite idea, which consist of only "request only" hotfix?
Then, normal hotfixes are to be installed silently on RunOnce stage.

But I am not sure if long time freeze still happen on RunOnce stage in this case.
So, I will try based on 1.31 files plus some fixes as much as I can.

Problem of this method is that whole file size would exceed CD because not all files are slipstreamed.

That's a really bad idea mick. The whole point of the RVM pack is direct integration, not just running the stupid installers.

Is this one necessary for integration? I can't find the fixccs.exe on my Windows XP CD.
yes your right.. the fixccs.exe isnt on the cd.. but i found it in original SP2 (extracted version)! itsin the update folder with all other files like update.exe and so on..

the following lines are in the update.inf from sp2:
[ProcessesToRunBeforeArchive]
"%sourcepath%\update\fixccs.exe"

so its impossible and totaly unnecessary for us to integrate it!

I'm game.

I am willing to give you guys ftp access where you can upload all hot fixes to. This way we can keep a list. And it's pretty easy to see which hot fixes need to be uploaded etc.

Now the thing is, like Ryan I do not have the time to keep the list and request hot fixes etc. So that will be up to you guys. I will help when I can though. But Microsoft seems to have cought on to me. As in they will not send me any more hot fixes. They dont even bother to reply. Have tried many different email addresses at different domains, different ip addresses, etc. So no luck there.

So it will be up to you guys to make sure all hot fixes are not supperseeded, working correctly, etc.

And even more, a little project of mine. ;)

Image

Been on hold for awhile, but it works. :D

Here is what happens. I create a list of all the hot fixes and my little app downloads them all in the list and installs them for you. The list is kept on ftp as well. So when you upload a new hotfix you just update the text file. :)

The current updates tab is just that, it shows all the hotfixes that are currently installed. I was planing on adding WMP 10 support as well.

See the new updates tab only show hot fixes that you do not have installed. This way you can be sure you have all of them.

Available updates is all of them and you can pick which ones you want. All orded by type of hot fix. Download tab of course is for downloading them. And the link pages atm link to all the good stuff. Like ryan's site, nlite, etc. Just an information tab atm.

Oh and the app is written in C#, Could use some help, newbie. ;)

So what do you guys think?

Take Care,
Will

That's awesome...does it work for XP only or does it authenticate?
And will it pull the updates from your FTP/be able to deselect certain ones?

Right now I only support Win XP. Yes it checks to make sure winxp sp2 is installed. Though I do plan on adding Win2K3 R2 support later on. ;)

Yes it will pull updates from ftp. Program updates that is. Have not coded that yet though. And yes you will be able to pick the ones you want. Have not coded that yet either.

See this app has been on hold from months now. No time. And thought I might get some time here soon but guess not. :( I just dont have the time.

Right now it just downloads all of them. Most stuff does not work yet. I consider it an alpha build.

But if you guys are serious just pm or email me and let me know. I will send over ftp information. And will send you copy of app to just see it work at least. ;)

Though reallly guys if you want to see it happen any time soon then I need someone to help code this bad boy. Again it's in C#. Because without help I'm afarid the app will never see the lite of day.

But even without the app we can at least have a public place for all the hot fixes. Which then I can all zip up or whatever. Or make some kind of installer for, or you guys can and then post that. And upload to bittorrent, etc.

If you guys are interested in something like that. Just let me know and I will send over details. I got plenty of space and bandwidth so that's taken care of.

Also someone was speaking of some kind of web interface. If your still planing that let me know and I will hook you up with database you need, etc. Just let me know. Would love to see this happen. :)

Take Care,
Will

Think about it this way. Next time MS releases a cumulative IE security update, use the QFE version (will almost certainly postdate that file) and you'll have the fix ;)

New:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;894685

Removable devices may not appear when you use the Forgotten Password Wizard or the Password Reset Wizard in Windows XP - 6.0.2900.2751 Shell32.dll <- Latest version

Complimentary hotfix:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894686/

The Forgotten Password Wizard incorrectly backs up your password to drive C, or you receive a "This disk is not a password reset disk" error message when you try to use the Password Reset Wizard to reset your password in Windows XP

If someone could request those and host them someplace like www.rapidshare.de? Or PM user war in this thread for his ftp details. Its on already!

Lets keep this alive folks!
