Hi all,

I have a problem with http://support.microsoft.com/?id=896256.

the installer runs through but does not ask me to reboot. The files were installed into C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386 but not into the C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder.

Device manager also shows the old kernel files. How do i install the hotfix properly?

Any advice?

I've had that problem before so I used http://www3.telus.net/_/replacer/ to replace the files manually.

And for that hot fix I do not even have any of those files on my system. Ony OS I have those files for is Windows 2000.

ummm, no thank you. i'm not wishing to join these ranks just yet.

seems that when you request hotfixes frivolously you get cut off.

I don't think 909444 is going to affect many of our users because it requires a very specific change being made which I'm willing to bet no home user ever does.

I saw a few hotfixes in your collection that you might not want.

KB867282 replaced
KB873333 replaced
KB883939 replaced
KB885884 officexp fix (for compatibility with xpsp2)
KB888092 sp1 fix
KB901105 only for winxp x64 or win2003

The three that were replaced were all cumulative IE updates, I think. The other ones aren't really relevant to windows xp sp2.

I haven't looked at whats actually been superseded by file version yet. Willing to help though.

So yeah, MS put a bunch of newer hotfixes inside the MCE Update Rollup 2 package. As far as I'm concerned, they're publicly-available at that point :P

As an XP Pro user, have you already noticed how big of a pain these hotfixes are to hunt down? Especially the ones that aren't available for manual download...Has anyone found a way to get those yet? I only look for the updates that keep WU from getting riled up and I find that to be monotonus.

What's the hotfix count so far?

You may experience a 20-second delay when you try to access a redirected folder by logging on to a Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1-based computer or to a Windows XP Service Pack 2-based computer

I would be very interested in this hotfix. Maybe Sereby can get it in english?

KB907018 - Internet Explorer 6 may stop responding when you close an HTML page that uses display filters or transitions

KB904767 - You may receive a "RPC locator has encountered a problem and needs to be closed" error message when you install Windows XP Service Pack 2 on a computer

KB906379 - BUG: You may receive the 0x800c0008 error value when you submit a HTTPS POST request through the IMoniker::BindToStorage function and use the IStream interface to provide the HTTP POST data

EDIT: added a KB

KB909390 - An update is available that lets Windows XP-based DNS client computers accept packets of up to 64 KB

SECOND EDIT: added another KB (currently not included with ryan's pack)

KB896427 - You cannot view the contents of a subfolder on a network share in Windows XP after you install the security bulletin MS-05-11 redirector update
