Expand or Keep Compressed

Post by eroder » Fri Apr 18, 2008 7:24 am

Would it be wise to expand all the compressed files in /I386 before
burning integrated/slipstreamed DVD? Will it speed up installation?
Comments?

Actually, it won't because the extra time that will take the DVD drive to read the extra data is more than the time needed by your CPU to decompress the files in memory before writing them to disk (and the DVD will have to read less data when it is compressed).

Tried that awhile ago and it REALLY slowed down my installation.

the method for expanding files under i386 is mostly recommended for a few driver files that are used\aid to launch the setup itself for reducing a bit of delays (thats all!)
not recommended nor intended for the simple process of copying ,"expand" does that.

this post links the details & an addon.
