Pasha, you are right! There is indeed a WINNT.SIF file in I386 folder, but I never use unattended setups, how did it get there? I'll burn it again and see what happens.
@Thruba :: forgive me if i am mis-remembering, but aren't ALL corp versions by default unattended? (so it inputs the key for you and therefore is activated?)

-ponder- now ya got me curious:)

-wanders off to find original media again-

No, TechnoHunter, they aren't. Never by default or otherwise. A key is always needed. Activation is a separate step that is not required with VLK.

If ur BIOS is patched or it from OEM vendor, u not need key if ur oembios-files and pid-files are from oemvendor`s XP disk. Then ur XP no need activate process (autoactivated).

U can install standart XPsp3 whithout key (oem), alsow u can make VL install whith autokey (u must push cancel button and S/N windows must be clean):

pid.inf

Are you sure about not needing keys?

I have an HP Pavilion with an HP royalty OEM XP install disc and I still need to enter the (generic) HP key (or put it in winnt.sif), even though the system uses SLP (it has an HP BIOS and it has HP OEM files - msoobe /a reports that Windows is already activated). In fact, you list keys yourself in pid.inf, if I understand your post correctly...

While we're on the subject, has anyone be able to use such an SLP disc in a virtual machine? I've tried both VMware with the option SMBIOS.reflectHost = TRUE and VirtualBox with the DMI strings set using the VBoxManage setextradata command on that machine without success. The real installation is activated, but the virtual is not. I might try Qemu or Bochs, but if you guys already know that won't work, I can save myself some effort...

EDIT: just experienced myself that this does work in VirtualPC 2007 SP1. Weird...
We are one, but we are not the same... Talk to each other!

Dont compleatly understand u, where i was wrong? U dont need keys if u have vendor bios, compartible oem distr with special oem key inthere (or u can patch ur bios, make compartible distr and write in special key for this vendor)

pid.inf, posted above is another way, it is from standart sp3 distr from MS, modified for auto-VL key.
ps: autohardware oem activation and VL, which not need activation are not the same thing :)
