Can I create a generic Windows OEM unattended from Dell CD?

Post by jfcarbel » Mon Jul 06, 2009 4:28 am

I have a Dell CD for XP Home and I am sure it is OEM. But my question is, is this disk tied to the Dell hardware and if so how do I remove all the Dell stuff to make it generic and can this even be done?

My goal is that I have a client that is going to purchase some OEM XP Home Licenses from Newegg, but I need to get the unttended install discs ready ahead of time and wanted to use this Dell CD.

Is it as easy as just removing Dell's CMDLINES.TXT and adding my own?

"rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 128 .\OEM.INF"
"cmd /c start /min cmd /c .\OEMLink.bat"
Is there other Dell crap I can chuck from the CD as well to save space, any suggestions of where to look.

thanks all

Get a retail disc instead and make it unattended.

The files that tie the CD to Dell hardware is the oembios files.

To get a retail disk to accept OEM keys, setupp.ini
has to be edited.
Otherwise it'll only accept retail keys.
Google it and you'll learn.
