Good find!
I'm not 100% sure but i don't see why we could not add this KB3000988 to Windows XP.

Latest rvkroots.exe is KB3048051 <http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... kroots.exe>. It needs fixing the registry, just as the previous one... But, before fixing, this one is Ver 007 and has been signed on Tue, Mar 17, 2015 3:16:13 PM, so it's the latest. Is there also any newer rootsupd.exe, with Ver above 041? I've been searching for such one, but so far, to no avail.
It appeared in a Security Advisory from Mar 16 <https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/3046310> and the link to the actual file is in the corresponding KB3046310 page...
KB3050995 - Microsoft security advisory: Improperly issued digital certificates could allow spoofing
- Adds "MSCHOLDING TEST" issued by "CNNIC ROOT" to the "Untrusted Certificates" store (CertMgr.msc).
- Requires the POSReady registry tweak or a patched update.exe to install on XPx86. XPx64 also requires a patched update.exe.

When I try to add the following registry entry installed by KB2782798:
That registry entry already exists in my English install, before any MUI pack is installed. And since I don't see any point in slipstreaming a French MUI pack, I'm not sure it would be very useful for me to put much more effort into adding a preexisting registry entry. The fault seems to lie with the French MUI pack, not POSReady.
...then any registry entries on the same "AddReg=" line following that one fail to get written to the registry. I have not tried adding that registry entry after Windows setup finishes.HKU,s-1-5-19\Control Panel\Desktop
or
HKU,"s-1-5-19\Control Panel\Desktop"
or
HKU,"s-1-5-19\Control Panel\Desktop",,0x10

I think you need to add them to HKCU. HKCU added during the Windows setup will become HKU once the system has been installed.

The original URL is indeed dead and unavailable in the Wayback Machine too.Destro wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2017 12:42 pmdoes anyone have this file. I can't find it anymore and I need it for testing purposes.

For testing purposes you can still use the Windows 2003 Server version of the update which installs the exact same files (which I also use for Windows 2000) but it cannot be used for manual installation (slipstreaming only) unless you modify the installer itself.
Re: Hotfix Hunting
it is still available via kbhotfix service:Destro wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2017 12:42 pmdoes anyone have this file. I can't find it anymore and I need it for testing purposes.

Re: Hotfix Hunting
BTW, has anyone perchance preserved KB2963522 - The system or application freezes in a Windows Embedded POSReady 2009-based device? Or, in case it was superseded, the one which replaced it? TIA.
