Sorry but guides are very scarce here. The best thing todo is tear Ryans apart and start from there replacing things and editing the inf file...

Hi my friend. I couldnt understand your question? Are you asking how much time it could take to write an update pack tutorial or just learning to make an update pack?

The question was about:
The time needed to make a localized RyanVM's update pack.

btw, thanks for calling me your friend.

Starting from scratch and little knowledge...? I would say a couple of weeks to a month? Depending on how fast you learn and how much time you have got to spend.

Also depending on your knowledge.
e.g. your understanding of INF & INI..

well, nothing really difficult.
but something must be noticed:
in entries.ini, [txtsetup_dirs] section, lists these entries:
241 = system32\PreInstall\WinSE\wxp_x86_0804_v1
242 = SoftwareDistribution\DataStore
243 = system32\zh-chs
244 = "Network Diagnostic"
245 = system32\Macromed\Flash

you should change 241 and 243 to your locale folder :D

The 1st step is looking at all the hotfixes in ryan's pack and seeing if each of the hotfixes has a localized version or not. Then you check the INF entries for each hotfix and seeing if any need to be changed for the language. Also you check the filenames. And shortcut names in RVMUpPck.inf.

Then start replacing files in ryan's pack and keep testing until it is finished.

Yes, sorry for not replying, i haven't had enough time to browse the forum a lot especially with my final exams these days (in fact i have one next morning).

I don't think I have enough time to do a Arabic RyanVM pack these days, but i will try to help when my finals are done.

the first step is to replaces any files you can find..
and some files should be renamed
in entries.ini [TXTSETUP] section, some items are listed like this
aaaaaaaa.aaa = .........................,bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb.bbb
aaaaaaaa.aaa is what in this pack
bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb.bbb is the name when you copy this file to your system it uses

As yumeyao said, files that windows cd contains and directly downloaded to hdd should be in 8.3 naming format.
It means sth like this: "xxxxxxxx.xxx". (8.3)
If you have a file like "LegitCheckControl.DLL" and want to include that in your windows cd, then you should rename it in 8,3 format. Generally lgtckctl.dll is being used for that file (this is just an example).
In dosnet.inf part of entries.ini file, we write d1,lgtckctl.dll for that file (in 8,3 format). But in txtsetup.sif part of entries.ini file, we write lgtckctl.dll = 100,,,,,,,2,0,0,LegitCheckControl.dll. Here, as you can easily see, first we call file in 8,3 format (same as we wrote in dosnet.inf part), then equal sign (=), then some numbers that will tell windows where to copy our file, then the name we want to give the file, i mean, its original name before renaming. In this example, windows will download lgtckctl.dll file from cd to temp directory on hdd, then copy it to c:\windows\system32 folder and rename it to legitcheckcontrol.dll.
Thats all.
Easy ha :wink:

You can look to gosh's site for that numbers. Some complicated but you can overcome. :wink:

PS:(Lol, triple posts :lol:)

oh, what i mean is this:
;This section contains entries that need to go into the [WinntDirectories] section of txtsetup.sif
[txtsetup_dirs]
241 = system32\PreInstall\WinSE\wxp_x86_0409_v1
242 = SoftwareDistribution\DataStore
243 = system32\en
244 = "Network Diagnostic"
245 = system32\Macromed\Flash
246 = system32\en-us
well, you see 241, 243 and 246.
you should change these three entries to your localization, for example, in my chinese pack, i made it
241 = system32\PreInstall\WinSE\wxp_x86_0804_v1
243 = system32\zh-chs
and 246 is for Remote Desktop Connection v6, which only availiable in english, so i deleted it(maybe i'll later install the vista on my computer, which may contain chinese MUI files)

yumeyao how did you know how to change this:

241 = system32\PreInstall\WinSE\wxp_x86_0409_v1

For this:

241 = system32\PreInstall\WinSE\wxp_x86_0804_v1

I mean where I can find a table to change the 0409 for my localized numbers ?
