Boooggy's pack ontop off RyanVM's

Post by RickSteele » Sun Nov 19, 2006 2:07 pm

Hi Boooggy,

"i think u can but i recommand integration on a fresh source. "

Using integrator 1.42 your's slipstreamed all ontop of RyanVM's 2.13 beautifully-xp pro sp2, nlite 1.2.1 to integrate drivers and apply reg/services tweaks. The only glitch was the flash9b.ocx-9.0.28.0-did not repl 9.0.16.0 from Ryan's pack; although the swflash.inf was altered to reflect the 9.0.28.0 update in your zero upd pack and in I386, you must have forgot to rerplace the flash.ocx-9.0.16.0 with the flash9b.ocx-9.0.28.0 when putting the pack together-the ocx in the pack is the older version. I modified the inf in I386 to point to flash9b in my image file and replaced flash9 with flash9b.oc_.

Boooggy,

I am still foggy on what the diff is between your pack and the Ryan VM pack. I know there is a sticky on this - but it doesn't clarify enough.

I just built my first "integrated" Win XP disk last week with Rayn VM. Everything worked great. But why should I chose yours over that one? Is yours more current? Do I apply yours to an unaltered vanilla set of XP SP2 files and then burn a disk and install Win XP Fresh?

A bit confused.

Cheers!

Yeah...sure. These two descriptions really give a clear indication of the difference between the two:

Boooggy's pack

Aim
To have zero updates listed on Microsoft Update after a clean install of XP and to install all updates as close to the original installer as possible.

Ryan's Pack

Aim
To have an XP install which is as up-to-date as possible and to install all updates as close to the original installer as possible.

FYI - after my Ryan Pack 2.1.4 integration to a vanilla XP SP2 CD - I had zero updates listed as well with trip to MS Update....so what exactly is the difference again?

Found two bugs in your current pack:

After installing setuperr.log tells us the following:

Error:
Setup detected that the system file named [c:\windows\system32\remotesp.tsp] is not signed properly
by Microsoft. This file could not be restored to the correct Microsoft version.
Use the SFC utility to verify the integrity of the file.

***

Error:
Setup detected that the system file named [c:\windows\system32\tapisrv.dll] is not signed properly
by Microsoft. This file could not be restored to the correct Microsoft version.
Use the SFC utility to verify the integrity of the file.

***

Error:
Setup detected that the system file named [c:\windows\system32\wuaucpl.cpl] is not signed properly
by Microsoft. This file could not be restored to the correct Microsoft version.
Use the SFC utility to verify the integrity of the file.

***

Solution:

In entries.ini below [svcpack_catalogs] the entry for KB893756.cat is missing.

The wuaucpl.cpl you are using with your pack is wrong version, replace it with version 5.8.0.2469 and all is fine.

I also found out while investigating the wuaucpl.cpl error, that you are using an outdated version of Windows Update Agent V2:
Included in your pack is v 5.8.0.2469
Latest built is v 5.8.0.2694

(Nope, this is no typo).

Everything else seems to be smooth, will switch from Ryan´s pack to yours.

Agreed

After installing this, MBSA 2.01 works on my system again.
If I find the time, I check how the old version is integrated here, then it should be easy to update.

Hehe, np, guessed so.

Can´t wait for new versions, already made some additional updates (only officially available from MS) which are missing in your current one and should be part of it.

If you find the time, you can take a look:
http://www.verzend.be/v/3069680/1_add_boogy.zip.html

As said, only official stuff.

Thx for the FAST update, but work for you isn´t over yet ;) :

Found one bug and two missing updates

Bug: KB925398 is reported by MBSA 2.01 as missing.

[EDIT] In entries.ini below I386_compress the entries for the two new files are missing;

Missing 1: KB901190 is still missing (MBSA will show this, if you install support for East Asian languages)

[EDIT2] Missing 2: KB926247 is completely missing; it should be included (when you one day need that service and install it, you are using outdated version) -> Solved

thx for reporting....
but the purpose of this pack is to have 0 updates on WU/MU and not on mbsa....
i retested and the only update that was on wu and mbsa was ie7.....
u were right about the missing entries in i386 compress.
also i checked the pack with qfecheck and all updates were fine.
926247 is not an update that shows on wu
901190 same situation.....at least for me....and about this update i had a discussion here somewhere and i presented the reasone i didnt include it.

here a screen of my missing updates on mbsa.....

an update that shows on wu
And that´s the point!

Please do the following:

Under "Regional and Language Options" -> Languages -> Please do a test install for East Asian Languages

Under "Add and remove windows components" please install "Management and Monitoring tools

Restart.

Check back at WU again.

WU can only report on things you have installed.

So, for future packs all options from "Add and remove windows components" and Language settings should be checked when letting WU check for missing updates. This are the options available from install disk and they should be up to date as well.

I use this updatepack quite often and I haven't had many issues with it. But with the latest one I have an issue and it looks like it may be related to wmp11. I have never integrated wmp11 due to it being buggy when integrated. I see you've added it to this updatepack though.

I am having the issue where my theme service is disabled on first boot, my network does not work and a few other things I notice aren't right. But if I restart then all is well and I am also able to select my theme.

Reading through the wmp11 addon thread it leads me to think it is related to it. My question is... is anyone else getting this problem or is it just me?

I re-create my multiboot disk about every 2 weeks using the same addons and the latest updatepack (Either Ryans or Boooggy's depending on my mood ;) ) I'm gonna be running some more tests tommorrow to try and figure out what is the issue... but I was curious if someone here may have an idea from their experiance with wmp11.

Thanks guys (and gals).

Siginet,

"... but I was curious if someone here may have an idea from their experiance with wmp11"

I have to reboot after first logon in order for my formated partitions and some customizations to be recognized completely and correctly, but, because I must install the Creative drivers in Windows I have never tried to use WMP 11 until after a few reboots. This reboot requirement is there regardless of whether I use the update packs or not; and using nlite.

I have absolutely no problems at all with 1.0.2, but, I only create a winXP pro 32-bit image, no multiboot. Further, to get the best of both worlds I slipstream wu zero upd pack ontop of RyanVM's pack along with saundry addons using nlite 1.2.1 for the entire process. Some tweaks, component removals and driver integration are also thrown in, again, using nlite; am typing this on such an install. One thing, though, after much testing I've found installing Rougespear's .NET 1.1 sp1 complete from svcpack, then his 3.0 complete from runonce made all the difference on how well the installs-and my os-run.

I haven't tried this pack, but I use booogy's WMP Addons quite frequently. And since this pack includes WMP11, I think rytukz and Sigi's first boot issues probably stem from that.

Looks like Ryan's is the only stable pack so far, although Xable is probably pretty close.

booogy,
I know we've all said it before, but we're really dying out here w/o WMP11! You gotta fix that OOBE, man...

[EDIT]
Whoa!! Just checked boooggy's download page. Not there!! Not even WMP10. boooggy, we need ya, buddy!!

Yes thank you viva, typical response from you.

I`ve tried a plethora of scripts from there and other places over the last several months actually. I`m after a recomendation of a specific script someone has personaly used and been impressed with.

I think it`s best if from now on you PM me if you have a suggestion before this gets all offtopic, this goes to everyone. Thank you.

I notice you have KB929969 listed.

I have tried to integrate IE7 after the zeropack. qfecheck shows it installed, but windows update says i don't have it, and I have to install it.

Also, when I integrate IE7, i get sfc errors, and windows constantly asks for my cd.

Without IE7, the errors are gone, but I still need to install KB929969 with WU.

Could it be related to it being in your pack and getting applied before IE7 ( I tried integrating IE7 before your zero pack, IE7 failed with many errors in setuperr.log)

Here is the order I am applying things (and with what):

Ryan integrator:
Boogy's zero update pack
RogueSpear .net 1 + sp1 addon
RogueSpear .net 2
Boogy's Update WMP11 addon (I get the OOBE and theme error without this)

nLite:
IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe
make ISO

I am a complete newbie to this stuff - I am a Unix geek trapped fixing windows machines :P So forgive me if I am missing something obvious.

If you get the oobe and theme error without adding the pack, it's possible boooggy hasn't updated the WMP11 in this update pack.

First, it would be best to add this pack with Integrator first, then add everything else with nlite. And, of course, add IE7 after everything else in a separate session.

Also, I'd try doing all this without the .NET addons. They're a bit problematic, especially if you're adding 1 and 2 together. Try it without these, and if you have no problems, than you know what the culprit was.

Finally, I'd advise removing SFC and enabling the 'uxtheme.dll' patch in nLite. It's either in Options or Tweaks (can't remember which), and most importantly, disable 'High Compression' in nLite. This will avoid seeing alot of 'copy errors' when xp copies files to the hard drive.

Try one (or all) of these and lemme know how it goes!!
:D
