[Updated] XP SP3 Update Pack 02.10-01

Post by redxii » Tue Dec 18, 2007 3:17 am

XP SP3 Update Pack 02.10-01

Credit: UpdatePack is based on the work of the RyanVM UpdatePack. This update pack consists of High Priority updates and a few extra goodies.

Notes
  • Do not integrate with any other update pack.
  • If you used nLite to integrate the pack and are having problems, PLEASE read this thread before reporting problems.
  • Use RVM Integrator for XP Home sources.
Known Issues
setuperr.log reports the following error:
  • Error:
Setup could not register the OLE Control C:\WINDOWS\system32\blastcln.exe because of the following error:
    Unknown returned error 0 (0).
blastcln.exe is made obsolete by the Malicious Software Removal Tool.
  • Malicious Software Removal Tool is not included but the version key is in there to hide it but does not always work, Windows Update may display it and will probably show a much older version. This is a server-side issue with how MS determines whether or not it's installed.

I don't see why not actually. The only files replaced are Flash and Windows Update files, the rest are completely new. The Windows Update files that are installed from Windows are dumped anyway for the 7.0.6000.381 files.

I didn't notice they had posted a new version already.

It's a nice thing that you place kb888111 on this packs,...

if i use it by RyanVM intr... he is in the root of the i386/SVCPACK

But when i use the Driverpacks he kicks kb888111 out of this i386/SVCPACK....

what to do........

THanks,Thanks

First this in the logfile:
<PREP> Unslipstreamed KB888111.

Second later this:

<WARN> Could not slipstream KB888111 because Service Pack 1 or 2 isn't slipstreamed!

This is the Warning

We're working on a new DPBase beta. Added support for sp3 and fixes for the HDAudio issues everyone has been having lately. It's in internal testing ATM, but should become public beta in the new year.

Check the news pagefor updates in the new year.

I just tested it and i have one problem, not from Update Pack 1.5.1 I suppose.
I slipstreamed (with nlite 1.4.1) SP3 build 3282 over a clean SP2 and then I try to add WMP11 (with WMP11Slipstreamer v0.96), IE7 and your XP SP3 (v3282) Update Pack 1.5.1. When is working to slipstream WMP11 i get an error:
-DirId: "242" is defined more then once in "Txtsetup.sif"-
What can I do to repair or skip this?

Try this new version:
http://red.caek.org/addons/RED_XP_SP3_UpdatePack_1.6.7z
EBE8F64C15AACF377E925D802CE2BF70

I change the directory numbers since I defined 242 and SP3 already has a 242.

@redxii: I noticed that the INF in your pack doesn't have the AddReg information for KB888111. I then checked the INF from the RyanVM UpdatePack and it did have the AddReg information. Does the AddReg information for KB888111 need to be added to the INF of your pack?

"kbwinxppresp3fix"

It isn't necessary for me to include KB921401 because SP3 already has that hotfix, so in fact you replaced it with a older SP2 version. That's why I didn't include the portcls.sys from KB888111, because SP3 already has a newer version.

I purposely removed the addreg for KB888111. It's unnecessary, unless if you have an HDA sound card driver that insists that that registry entry be present and not the actual drivers, then I suppose I can re-add it.

After I made my post, I went through SP3 and found out that KB921401 was included. Sorry about that.

Thanks for the information about the AddReg information for KB888111. I would recommend putting in the AddReg information into the INF for those people who have HDA sound card drivers that insist on the Registry entry.

I came across an issue with a fresh install of XP with SP3 slipstreamed. It is described on the site below:

Code: Select all

http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/01/28/ie6-stops-responding-in-windows-xp-with-sp2-or-sp3-due-to-urlmondll/
I then downloaded the hotfix, KB946627, and installed it but got a message saying that a newer service pack is already installed. Since this update is just a registry edit, I was easily able to add it to the INF of this pack.

Here is what I added to the INF to fix the issue:

Code: Select all

[KB946627.AddReg]
HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_PROTECT_DECOMPRESSION_FILTER_FROM_ABORT_KB942367","*",0x10001,1
Also, I added "KB946627.AddReg" (without the quotes) to the AddReg line under the "[XPSP3Upd]" section, so that the "[KB946627.AddReg]" section will be executed during install.

I tested this out on a fresh install and it works.

I will try it.

Seriously, they need to fix that already. It has been crashing since at least build 3180. If it kills them to insert that one simple addreg line directly into hivesft.inf then they aren't likely to include it.

Normally I always install IE7 (via archived installer), and IE7 doesn't have that problem.

In my opinion, Microsoft should fix that if they plan on putting out Windows XP with SP3 to retailers without integrating IE7. I'm not sure if they plan to integrate IE7 or not when they do ship out to retailers.

The word in the SP3 forum is neither IE7 nor WMP11 will be included in SP3.

As MS are offering this to the public, and also without WGA checks, can some bright soul post a link to the actual .exe? I'm running vista, so I cant go in to the Windows Update logs and get the link to the .exe for myself.

I believe this should work: Windows XP SP3 Release Candidate 2.exe

I thought there would be more to it than a CMD file. Running Xp x64 here, so no luck for me either. I'll see if I have any luck in VM.

It's strange the way MS is doing this. By a registry hack, to make Windows Update show the file. Why not just post a link to the full .exe?

I also guess that Build 3311 is now the official RC2 of SP3.

I'm downloading it to check against my copy of 3300 that I got as a beta tester. In the meantime try this:

Edit: You are correct, it's not the same as the copy that I got as a beta tester.

The extracted kernel.dll from your link techtype, is version 3264. So its defiantly not the 3311 build.

Even as a beta tester, we did not get a download of 3311. We had to get 3311 from Windows Update.

Well, I performed the update, I saved the downloaded files into a Windows XP SP3 RC2 (3311) folder prior to allowing it to really install it, everything is fine EXCEPT.... i haven't been able to get it to allow for an integrated install yet... keeps tellin me that it must contain an i386 folder, still sorting through all of that nonsense....

but, i can compress and upload the sp3 3311 files so you could implement the update, and if i get the integrated install fixed will let ya know

UPDATE:
OK, I have been playing with this integrate situation, currently the only thing I have had work (as far as getting it to slipstream, still making disc and testing) is......

I took complete RC1 3300 build KB file, extracted it, and i copied the files/folders from the extracted 3311 file into it to match the original... ie copy the contents of the root from this 3311 into the 1386 of the 3300 and all subfolders into corresponding folders.

At least it reports it integrated correctly, will let ya know after installing
