I did the same thing myself ust now here at work, and it does indeed work on my end.

I've also shadow copied the files I write patches for and I'll do some more tests at home.

It's not RTM, one thing tells me this... You still need a key during setup to install Windows.

You sure you aren't slipstreaming a volume license CD? Those will still require a CD Key.

I will try 5503 in a bit, but every time I heard someone say that build X or Y doesn't allow to skip entering a key, usually is not the case with me, using either OEM or retail.

It didn't require me to enter a key during setup.

1.7 released.. HDA files removed.

Interesting. Thanks for the info, redxii. I hadn't thought about the distinction between VLK and OEM/Retail when I slipstreamed 3311 into my VLK to test.

Thanks.

The one glaring concern I have noticed with the SP3 is MUS does not list any updates at all other than Office!
For instance, this latest round of patches are not required according to MS update, so I downloaded the IE7 cummulative update and it installed without error, but, none of the other critical or important hotfixes for XP would install-being for SP2 of course, but, still.....; this has me a little concerned :?

Did you say that when you installed it on a real PC it didn't install? Did you use the same exact ISO on your real PC? Try a fresh XP SP3 source?

Which integrator version are you using? I used and only tested 1.5.1.

Also, Firefox and other browsers require a separate plugin.

I created a Fresh ISO, SP2 slipstreamed, then, SP3 build 5508. I only do realtime installs-no VM. Your RED_XP_SP3_UpdatePack_1.8 was used

Which integrator version are you using? I used and only tested 1.5.1.

Integrator 1.5.1 was used for all addons and the update pack. nLite-1.4.5.b2 was used to remove screen savers, colour schemes, sample music, old video and sound drivers from the Driver Cache; apply tweaks and build the ISO. This concern did/does not exist using 1.7. All addons, tweaks, sequence etc. are identical in creating all ISO's-ie: using 1.7 for one and 1.8 for the other.

Also, Firefox and other browsers require a separate plugin.

I use onepiece's OnePiece_IE7AddOn_2.1.0_INTL_Only_for_RVMi to slipstream IE7 after all else is done, at the end of addon integration.

Sorry for taking so long to reply, but, I've just completed two additional installs, everything the same just to be sure. The result is Flash does not install at all; not even a Macromedia folder is created in system32.
All else in 1.8 seems to be working fine.
Thanks

OnePiece_IE7AddOn_2.1.0_INTL_Only_for_RVMi is using my Dir ID that i'm using for Flash. The IE7 addon is overwriting my Dir ID and so it is installing Flash in the wrong place.

I did not touch the Dir IDs in 1.8.

I changed the Dir IDs and also there's a new integrator.. according to the changelog, avoids the problem by changing the Dir IDs.

Thanks redxii, all works flawlessly using RVM_Integrator_1.5.2 or RVM_Integrator_1.5.3 and RED_XP_SP3_UpdatePack_1.8; also, just an aside, up until RVM_Integrator_1.5.2 I had been having serious issues with my DVD drives and ASUS Maximus Formula's jMicron controller. These issues are completely gone now; no other change to anything other than the version of RVM_Integrator used; everything, and I mean everything, else exactly the same as before......, so this is GREAT!
I will create a fresh ISO using RED_XP_SP3_UpdatePack_1.8.1 and install this weekend.

The most recent you can get from Microsoft of the redistributable SP3 is still build 5508 which you can get at http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/m ... 7f4095.exe

That's still a Release Candidate, so it's not final. If you slipstreamed that, you wouldn't be able to upgrade to SP3 RTM without completely reinstalling Windows.

FYI the latest strong rumors suggest that some of us might be able to get a hold of SP3 RTM next week or so.

I experience enough quirks with Windows without actually using beta versions of Service Packs except just for experimental purposes.

Absolutely, if I hear anything about SP3 before anyone else here spills the beans I'll let everyone know.

I've heard of a few people experiencing problems with their Windows recently and they were using betas of SP3. Didn't pay attention to any details other than that since usually someone beat me to the punch of letting them know that the timeout of the beta of SP3 was probably the cause, so I don't know anything definitive but just the strong suggestion that indeed it has time bombed on some.

I've read that proper testing of the timebomb of XP with betas of SP3 can't be fooled by just changing the system date, even outside of Windows (in the BIOS). I have no idea how Windows determines that such tests are bogus and not to actually time bomb yet.

Anyone have any solid facts about this and about how this can be so?

I use slipstreamed into Corporate Edition - and NO timebomb!

I do some tests too. (Corporate and RTM)+sp3.5508. Nothing happens when change date over six months.
But maybe is not our computer time, maybe timebomb obtain time from outside (M$ server)...

Edit: Now I have tested changing computer date at 2009 before installing Home+5508 and nothing happens...

If that were true, the timebomb would only work if the computer were connected to the internet. I doubt if Microsoft would allow it to not timebomb on a computer that's not connected to the internet, but I suppose that is a strong candidate for how it works.

Especially since that method wouldn't let Windows keep working just by the user manually rolling the date back. Does that mean the the betas/RCs have an added call-home service that the RTMs don't have? Since XP's built-in ability the update the time from the internet can be disabled...

Maybe work day by day incrementing a counter, so changing only date not working.
Maybe will need to contact a script on M$ server, and now M$ does not want to activate this script yet.
Too many maybe. O simply, is not one timebomb inside?
Will see in future what happens.

What order are you integrating everything? Every time I try to integrate IE7 with the installation source, Windows setup fails with an error involving catalog files. I won't be able to check what the exact error is until Tuesday, but if anyone happens to know what the problem is, please let me know. Everything works fine until integrating IE7. I'm using the same addon Rick uses, OnePiece_IE7AddOn_2.1.0_INTL_Only_for_RVMi (OnePiece).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

this update works gloriously for me using RTM, MCE addon + many other addons.

I have had best luck lately doing everything in one single shot with nLite, however to slipstream sp3 prior to using nLite, I use a script that was posted here somewhere which deletes sp2 specific files for a more efficiently sized disc. then in nLite I place this update addon before the MCE addon and everything else after it with IE7 and IE7 related addons near the end of the list... only hiccups I've had recently were because of infs I modded for myself for directory structure purposes.

Sorry to take so long to answer, been busy setting up the "perfect" for me install with 5512; completing 3 fresh realtime installs before I got it all just right.

I use both integrator 1.8.3 and nLite-1.4.5.b2

First, RVM_Integrator_1.5.3; in the following order:

RED_XP_SP3_UpdatePack_1.8.1
CppRuntimes2008_Addon_n7Epsilon_1.2-20080413

Then:

PatchAddon_HIVESYS_v13c
RogueSpearAddonsUpdate_1.1.4
(modified by me to install Calculator Plus only)-none of Rouge's files work for me at all in SP3; I have not posted about it because SP3 was, until now beta, and RTM "isn't available" to all yet....so, perhaps in time he will check for SP3 compatability...a very busy man!

Then:

Kels_Unicode2008_v1.626.6001.18000_addon

Then:

Xable_ContextAttributes_v1.1_addon
xable_OUE-OGA-v1.7_addon
Xable_PathCopy_v1.1_addon
xable_WGAV-v1.3_addon

Then:

Kels_SpiritPyre_Ext_addon_2.0
MrsP_Cabinet_Tools_SDK_Addon_v2.2-070913
MrsP_FileCase_ShellExt_Addon_v1.2.7.28
Reg2Inf.46_AddOn

and run wmp11slips0.99i in "Advanced Options" to slipstream WMP11 and all the hotfixes recommended

Then:

OnePiece_IE7AddOn_2.1.0_INTL_Only_for_RVMi.7z by itself as the very last addon using RVM_Integrator_1.5.3

I run dotnetfxAIO2.1 from runonce.

I now use nLite-1.4.5.b2; the following is my Configuration:

Code: Select all

This all works just perfectly for me, but, because I partition my HDD (4 partitions)-two 150G Raptors-I allow no switchless installers unless I have personally modified the msi file. I prefer to have total control as much as possible and because my coding skills are still seriously lacking, I must do most manually during runonce which I execute via cmd.
Hope this helps a little for you.

OK, but you don't integrate IE7?

I can't integrate IE7, whatever I try. I tried different versions of IE7 addons.

This is what I did:
1. Use updatepack RED_XP_SP3_UpdatePack_1.8.1 with RVM_Integrator_1.5.3

2. After the updatepack was ready, I used RVM_integrator_1.5.3 to integrate OnePiece_IE7AddOn_2.1.0_INTL_Only_for_RVMi.7z

3. Used nLite-1.4.5.b2 to make an ISO

I always get the error at T-39: "Setup failed to install the product catalogs. This is a fatal error" As a source I use the VLK version of XP with SP 3 integrated by Micrsoft. What source did you use? XP with SP2 integrated?

According to posts elsewhere, it is best to start out with a non customized SP2 CD.

Certain files previous to SP2 do not get updated with SP3. Therefore if you want to "make sure" everything is added *and* updated, use the "non customized" SP2 CD to integrate SP3 into.

I myself do this and am able to integrate NR_IE7en_Addon_1.1.0.7z into the SP3 CD. (Using the latest nlite.)

I now use nLite-1.4.5.b2; the following is my Configuration:

[Main]
Env = 1.4.5 beta 2 - 2.0.50727.1433.Microsoft Windows NT 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3
Target = Windows XP Professional SP3 - 5.1.2600.5512 - English (United States)

As kind of a caveat-a general rule if you like-where I am concerned, since 1.5.1, the days of using nlite to perform all functions in one action are at an end; at least for the time being. The main concern here, learned from Siginet having to update Integrator after 1.5.1, is the lack of strict adherence to a common coding baseline; ie: the use of common directories by addon makers resulting in a clash during setup.
Please don't get me wrong here. This is neither a criticism or attempted chastisement by me towards anybody; just pointing out the fact that if you want perfection, you die and go to heaven >LOL

That said, I feel currently Integrator does a far better job of slipstreaming addon/update packs than nlite. nlite finishes off the ISO compilation by allowing for tweaks, registry customizations (Entries_Settings.ini), driver integration, component removal; nlite's main strength for me is it will by-pass strict adherence to the addon's ini/content if the file versions are lower than those existant in the folder-adapt if you will.

Integrator requires that you pay strict attention to what and when addons/update packs are slipstreamed-a similar weakness in nlite is it will start with the oldest by date; effectively, it could, and has for me, slipstreamed IE7 hotfixes before IE7-an extreme example; or, it will slipstream SP2 and if you let it continue with all else at the same time your ISO will be corrupted and not install.

I own XP Professional SP1a. I copy this to the HDD in VRMPOEM_EN_SP3.
I, then, slipstream SP2 manually to VRMPOEM_EN_SP3.
Finnally, SP3 5512 is slipstreamed to VRMPOEM_EN_SP3.

The above is all done manually and separately; ie: .....update.exe /integrate:your drive\your folder.

Lastly, I get nlite to create an ISO and burn it to CD-RW; this is my OEM Windows XP Professional SP3; completely and totally as Microsoft intended it to be, absolutely no customizations of any kind whatsoever.

I copy the root, I386 and DOC folders to another directory named VRMPOEM_EN where my OEM folder/sub directories also reside. It is in this directory that I do all my customizations; Integrator and nlite. If it doesn't work out I delete the directories inside VRMPOEM_EN, copy the original untouched from VRMPOEM_EN_SP3 to VRMPOEM_EN and try another customization; always starting with a completely untouched SP3

Again, mileage will vary, this works very well for me though almost all of the time.

Oh, and one final little tid-bit, sometiomes I've found although everything goes swimmingly Integrator and nlite-wise, your install is buggy; I've found keeping a record of the last that worked very well, and comparing, if any changes, to that which didn't, will help enormously in figuring it all out. If no changes, then the customization went bad silently, so to speak; I just create another complete customization-start to finish-using a completetly untouched source; always, always, the source must be "stock", no anything. :)

Finally. I got it, IE7 integrated from XP SP3 VLK. (no service packs integrated by me)

I searched and found that the error-message regarding the catalogs had to do with SYSSETUP.dll not being patched, So I had to manually added the following to entries_ie7.ini:
"I386\SYSSETUP.DLL|5.1.2600.5512|211753|73|72"

P.S. I did get a warning (for the first time) about the Battery-device not having signed/whql drivers, but I could just continue.

edit: The errormessage about the battery in setupapi.log after install:
"#E366 An unsigned or incorrectly signed file "c:\windows\inf\syssetup.inf" for driver "Battery" will be installed (Policy=Warn, user said ok). Error 1168: Element not found."
