Lots of good feedback on this one, I'll try it as soon as I can.

BTW, from your readme file:

KB931125 - Microsoft root certificate program members (January 2008)

The site http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931125 says:
Microsoft root certificate program members (February 2009)
Release Date: 2/24/2009

Can you check it out?

I'm sure as well... :)

My guess was that he probably already have the latest version and that information in the readme is old.

Sorry Red. My bad, I posted that from my GF's PC. And her box still runs on an image based on RED_XP_SP3_UpdatePack_01.09-02.7z. So no wonder...

And thank you for the silent June update. :)

Thank you for your hard work.

However, I'm facing a weird problem.
I was using Ryan's pack before, so this is my first time with this one.

I'm using nlite to integrate this redxii pack.
Then, I re-run nlite to integrate directx & m$ runtimes (both from code65536).
Then I finally remove components etc.

Now comes the fun story. The cd boots fine either in virtualbox or in my gf pc (acer 7720), but not (at all) on mine.
I see the "boot from cd" message, after which i should see "press any key to boot from cd" (which i indeed see on the 2 other aformentioned pc's), but no, I then get to the windows booting, as if there was no bootable cd in the drive.

I should state that I have 2 drives, a sata and an ide, I tried both of course, I even tried to unplug one or the other, with the same result.
I'm stuck.

My original windows cd boots fine, hiren's boot cd boots fine.

Any idea welcome.

p.s. Im posting here as I did another integration with another pack just before trying this one, and it worked, so it seems to be related to your pack.

Thanks

Like the OP says:
If you used nLite to integrate the pack and are having problems, PLEASE read this thread before reporting problems.

Anyway, integrate Red's pack with RVM Integrator, you can add the addons from code65536 in one go. Always do the nLite stuff last.

Thanks beats.
Thing is the cd was fine, it just didn't boot on MY pc, hence my worries.
I solved the problem using a downloaded boot sector, and building the iso with that, with ultraiso.

Thank you for the new update! I'm using this pack in all my installs. Please keep it updated - we need it.

Could I make a small suggestion though. Can we keep "Malicious Software Removal Tool " as an optional and do not include it with the Update Pack itself?
Why?
1) I don't use MSRT because it collects and sends silently results of its action back to Microsoft site (see its EULA) and I do not think that I need it.
2) It becomes obsolete every month anyway.
3) If some one needs it - the latest version could be downloaded directly from the site at any time. And when you want it to run - it's better to check the latest version anyway.

If it's not possible (or, by some reason, not desirable) to remove MSRT from this Update Pack - could some one recommend an add-on that will remove it automatically?

Thank you!

MSRT isn't included, only a registry to make WU think the current version is already installed.

About the MSRT: it is explicitly listed in the list of updates for this pack as being included.
In light of what was just said, shouldn't this be changed?

Did you identify what exactly is sent silently? Is it something like "I ran and found no poblems" Or "I ran and found this-and-this malicious piece of software and my location is this and the os is and the updates installed here are.."

any other?

hi,

I've installed XP with the 07.09-01 pack and got prompted to install the following updates:

Update for Windows XP (KB961118)
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 for Windows XP (KB972260)
Security Update for Windows XP with Windows Media Format Runtime 9.5 (KB923689)
Security Update for Windows XP with Windows Media Format Runtime 9.5 and 11 (KB941569)

Just noticed the pack update (07.09-02) but from what I can see in the change log there isn't anything mentioned about any of them being changed or updated in it. it's me or what?

damn.. just burned that damn cd  oh well.. I'll burn another :D

Hey redxii, I'm not sure if this is related to your pack or not but WBEM fails to properly install for me when I use it. Here's a post from RogueSpear's forum where one of the users is also trying to troubleshoot the problem.
zifnab wrote:So far this looks to be a failure in the WMI installation as a manual reinstallation using:

Code: Select all

rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection WBEM 128 %windir%\inf\wbemoc.inf
seems to allow it to instantiate the object. I'm having the same problem using the Corp VLK SP3 image (direct from ms) run through autoimage with nLite 1.4.5 Final, DriverPack 8.05 and RVM 1.5.3.

I'll know more later as I'm still introducing myself to AutoImage at the moment (kept hacking AutoRIS to work previously :P).

Update: So it looks like certain RVM update packs and nLite are causing the issue with WMI. I haven't been able to get REDs Post-SP3 update pack working but still am able to use RVM to integrate the .Net libraries. nLite 1.4.6 still seems to kill my RIS based install. I'm still testing various options but with just RVM 1.5.3, Driverpack 8.05 and ScriptPack 1.08 I'm able to get AutoImage working right.
I put the relevant part in bold.

I'm going to be checking a few things. If I can narrow it down to your Update Pack, then I'll let you know.

I don't use/test/accommodate for nLite. The developer decided to abandon it. The latest RVM Integrator version is 1.6 and it contains a fix for some error in SP3 w/ WBEM, so I didn't include the fix in my update pack.

Oh, my mistake. I thought he was strictly talking about some RVM updates and the use of nLite as separate entities. I didn't realize he meant that using the updates WITH nLite caused the problem.

Yeah, I don't use nLite for anything anymore. So what he's saying probably isn't relevant to my problem, despite us having the same symptoms.

previously you just required the reg entries to stub the nag, but now
you require the mrt.exe file as well with current file version info.

based on this thread http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=96075 i created a small footprint mrt.exe that satisfies MU/WU.

you can check my latest updatepack for the one i am using.

What hotfixes/addons should one comment-out/remove if they're using the N version (aka the WMP-free version)?

Thanks for the ninja edit. Now time for feedback.

When I slipstream the pack in I'm noticing two things popping up in windows update. One thing being is that it's asking me to download the malicious software removal tool from January 2009 (890830) and the other is the "Security Update for Windows Media Format Runtime 9, 9.5 & 11 for Windows XP SP 3 (KB968816)". I don't know if the second one is related to the pack in anyway (could be something I need to add to my wmp11 slipstream) but I though I'd put it out there.

Thanks for another ultra fast update, some feedback also.

I´ve made a new build with your update pack but when i check at windows update site the KB971961 - JScript 5.8 - is still missing and to install.

So i´ve checked the file "jscript.dll"

In your newest update the file version is 5.7.6002.22145

In microsoft update site the newest version is 5.8.6001.22886

Once again thanks for your hard work. Best Regards.

Nothing wrong with the update pack.

Read the first post about MSRT (I have no intention to correct it by some weird means). The WMP update I include is for WMP 9 and not 11 and will require a redownload when you install another WMP version. IE8 installs jscript 5.8, my update pack updates 5.7 because XP comes with 5.7.

v5.8 is only installed with IE8. v5.7.6002.22145 is the correct version for XP SP3 without IE8. All IE8 addons must be updated to include KB971961 or IE8 addon users will continue to receive that notification.
