Many older PCs do not need DVD-ROM drives. For these, fitting XP on one 650MB CD is necessary. The cost for blanks depends on where you live and where you shop. Canada taxed blank media to counter piracy; I don't know if it still does. But in the US it's still cheaper to buy blank CDs than blank DVDs in stores where I live.

@user_hiden.
Please, help me to understand logic behind latest addition to your UP.
1. All of them (CAPICOM 2.1.0.2 DirectX 9.0c, VB Runtimes 1,2,3,4
and Visual C 1,7) are add-ons by definition and nature and not post
XP SP3 updates.
2. All of them are “frozen” and will not be changed for long time if ever.
3. Majority of user will never use them (I am using your UP for years
and have never installed any of them).
4. Why increase size of UP by 20MB (50%), which you have to upload,
and we have to download every second Tuesday in every month,
instead to download them as AddOns once and use them if and when
we need them?!
I appreciate your great work and thank you for time and effort to provide
to us the best UP ever, but keep it ESSENTIAL as before, please!

If you don't need them that doesn't mean others won't.
For example if you install an office program then you will be promoted to install the CAPICOM 2.1.0.2 over the Windows Update Center and if you install some games then you should have the latest DirectX 9.0c Runtimes installed and some old tools will require old Visual Runtimes.
If you need space then you should remove the useless stuff from your CD like the "DOTNETFX", "I386\WIN9XMIG", "I386\WIN9XUPG" and "I386\WINNTUPG" folders.
And that you complain about downloading 20MB more is little bit funny.

It seems Rick is still updating this, so if I revert back to this addon, will there be a conflict with the VC7 already in the update pack or will the related files just be overwritten?user_hidden wrote:@adric
how about this one
File: Ricks-YumeYao_MicrosoftVC78910RuntimeLibraries_MixedAddon_2_1_3.7z
MD5: b36ffb8bcf52afd628a2510ad2ccfe80
or I may reconsider, i need input......

Anybody needing a smaller XP installation disk can use Xable’s update pack.
It only contains high priority updates that appear on windows update.

i don't think it will conflict....integrate it and let me know if there is an issue.
if you want just rebuild the addon with the vcredist.exe in the svcpack folder. that contains only the VC8,9,10.
remove the sections from entries_msvcrtl.ini
[dosnet_files]
[txtsetup_files]
[i386_compress]
remove all of the DLL files
repack + test

I'm not sure why, but I got the following errors on the last update pack:
edit: seems to be a conflict with Kels_Runtimes_addon_v8.4.2.rar that uses a newer usp10.dll taken from office2007-kb2288621-fullfile-x86-glb that has no cat file.

kels installer places a USP10.dll that does not come with XP.
As well i don't think there is a CAT available so it will have the error.
there should be no problem using though.

the left over 971513 is just ignored.
i'll clean those for next release.

user_hidden,
Another possible change to consider for updating a future pack:
usp10.dll
I would recommend version 1.626.6002.22384 because it seems to be the latest version that works on XP and comes with a cat.
Like your other changes this past month, it's unlikely to be necessary to update ever again.

Hmmm, after a bit more searching I realize I could be mistaken about usp10.dll.
The version currently in the update pack, 1.420.2600.5969, is meant for XP.
Version 1.626.6002.22384 is meant for Vista.
They were issued on the same date when MS10-063 was released.
Kel added it to his XP runtimes pack "for greater unicode support" and I have been using the vista one for quite some time without issues, but I will need to do a bit more homework on this.

i had left the XP one in the pack from KB981322 and never liked
hybridizing any files from other OS marked files.
Thanks for the update, as usual.
I also think it's better to keep this update pack clean of Direct X and runtimes etc, although I personnaly slipstream 3rd party of those.
I got a message "SETUP CANNOT COPY THE FILE : MSVBVM50.DLL"
Tested in Virtualbox it doesnt happen there.
I install from usb using wintoflash, don't know if that can be the cause ?
The file "MSVBVM50.DL_" is in the i386 folder, so i have no clue about what could be wrong here.

Sorry, don't get what you mean, clicking on it does nothing of course (unknown file).
Then I guess you want me to copy from the xp original cd to the usb stick ?

If it gives you error than there is problem on stick and not with WinToFlash.

When testing installation with XPSP3_QFE_UpdatePack_20120911.7z
In VirtualPC, I have experienced surprise when Windows Update insists
on installing following updates, which are part of the Update Pack:
KB892130
KB898461
KB931125
KB2736233
KB2728973
KB2659262
KB2686509
KB2603381
KB2570947
and KB2618451, which is not part of the pack.
On top of that, “Show Quick Launch” is not possible.
It never happened before and I am curios if somebody have
experienced the same problems?

I am in process of step by step testing:
I have already established that source of problem is not your
Update Pack as I have expected.
My usual add-ons are nonno's IE8, IE8 correction, WMP11,
.net3.5 and .net4 and up to now there have been no problems.
I will report back results of my testing.
Thank you for your concern.

After several hours of testing I could only conclude that probable
reason for problems, I described in earlier post, is faulty download.
When I downloaded UP again and made new integration, everything
went as it should. Sorry for false alarm!
I do heavy nLite-ing reducing size of final ISO with your UP, IE8,
WMP11, .net3.5 and .net4 to the 343MB and have been afraid
that your new UP doesn’t allow that level of downsizing.
I have only one comment: there are in “Start/All Programs” two
entries, “Microsoft Update” and “Windows Update”, and both of them
point to the Microsoft Update.
Thank you once again for best UP ever
(in spite of not accepting my suggestions)!

yup always check the download checksum.
nlite trimming is ok with my pack .
there are a few things not to be removed but I may add
something to next pack to block certain changes by nlite.
UH update pack adds "Microsoft Update" to the start menu.
Onepiece IE8 adds "Windows Update" to the start menu.

if it persists, just extract the IE.inf and add this line
IE* AddOn has nothing to do with "Windows Update" to the start menu ? (from the IE.inf not part any type command to delete or create "Windows Update" to the start menu)
that creates the SYSSETUP.INF
for those who want to repair it from the desktop, open notepad copy this line, save as flash.inf, and click install on flash.inf
if it persists, just extract the IE.inf and add this line
;;and this last command that runs in the system, before the desktop to open for the first time after the installation of windows

@OnePiece
@user_hidden
Upsss... I didn't intend to provoke this discussion, to sophisticated for me,
but I am satisfied that it triggered improvement of user_hidden's UP.
For decades, I have done updates integration and trimming of Micosoft OSes
using various tools and approaches. When in 2009 I have discovered this Forum,
I have done some testing of several UPs and after failing to initially convince
OnePiece to reduce his UP and user_hidden to include IE8 and WMP11 in
his UP, I finally settled tu use UH UP and OP AddOns for IE8, IE8Correction,
.net3.5 and .net4.0. By my opinion this is best combination and I thank both
of you from the bottom of my heart!
Thanks to nLite and RVMI and vLite and some other Win7 tools, I have today
on all my computers dual installations with XP4Pro on C: and Win7Ult on D:
partitions, sizes of 3.5GB and 4.5GB, installed from ISOs, sizes of 343MB
and 671MB (with SP! and IE9) respectfully, fully functional and updated.
Un updated ISO size of XPSP3 is 173MB and of Win7UltSP1IE9 is 553MB.
Since user_hidden "may add something to next pack to block certain
changes by nlite", I kindly ask both of you, to examine my procedure and
nLite script and suggest changes and improvements, as my knowledge is far
far below yours. Any suggestion will be highly appreciated.
Procedure:
0. Extract XP3ProVL.iso to XP4 folder.
1. Delete folders "Win9xmig" and "Win9xupg" from " i386".
2. Use nLite to integrate PostSP3AddOns.
3. Delete Last Session.ini and Last Session_u.ini from XP4 folder.
4. Copy $oem$ folder to XP4 folder.
5. Use RayanVM to integrate RyanAddOns and nLite to make final ISO.
For AHACI installation:
6. Copy folder "$1" to folder "$oem$".
7. Modify Txtsetup.sif and Winnt.sif.
8. Copy all files from "sata" folder to "i386" folder.
9. Use nLite to make final ISO.
For USB installation:
10. Use "WinToFlash" to make bootable USB.
11. Copy all files from "sata" folder to "$win_nt$.~bt" folder on USB.
In point 2. I integrate UP and all AddOns except IE8Correction and in point 5
only IE8Correction, using RVMI practically only for "Optimize System Files".
When I use RVMI for integration of all UP and AddOns the size of final ISO
increases by 5MB.

During composing my previous post, I have tested new UP and
there are still same two entries pointing to the Microsoft Update.
can you attach an image of the 2 links....
or are you talking about:
Windows Catalog
Microsoft Update
Microsoft Update Catalog

I can't attach image, but I am talking about:
Microsoft Update and Windows Update,
both pointing to Microsoft Update as before!
