Em...could someone tell me WHERE EXACTLY are the driverpacks for Vista. I cant find any on driverpacks.net. Only some kind of HWID tool that i can live without, really. Is it so that there are no real driverpacks for Vista yet (i.e. Graphics, LAN etc) or am i just stupid enough not to spot them?

Create this folder & copy IE8 distributive into it:

Code: Select all

sources\$OEM$\$$\Setup\Updates\IE8-WindowsVista-x86-ENU.exe
Create folder & CMD-file:

Code: Select all

sources\$OEM$\$$\Setup\Scripts\SetupComplete.cmd
CMD-file content:

Code: Select all

start /wait %WINDIR%\Setup\Updates\IE8-WindowsVista-x86-ENU.exe /passive /norestart /update-no
rmdir /s /q %WINDIR%\Setup\Updates
After Vista install & boot for 1st time - there are IE7, after once time reboot - IE8

Extrect from NDP35SP1-KB958484-x86.exe the NDP35SP1-KB958484.msp file.

integrate it in the original msi file with command: "msiexec /p NDP35SP1-KB958484.msp /a C:\DNF3.5-SP1-x86\vs_setup.msi SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE /qb /l* install.log"

Now your vs_setup.msi is fully updated with the NDP35SP1-KB958484 hotfix. Now you only have to install one file instead of two.

PS: in your post above, you mention:

Code: Select all

The 3 cab files that you need extra are:
Windows6.0-KB949248-v6001-x86.cab
Windows6.0-KB949249-v6001-x86.cab
Windows6.0-KB967190-x86.cab
Are these still neccesary? Do they also have to be integrated in the vista source? Because they are not in the NetFramework-v3.5-SP1_x86_904.7z package...

Seems they are onely needed for the x64. that is why it is larger...

Thanks, that worked for me. And that Vista have another time to reboot doesn't matter.

How does the top link's method differ from Vista-Tool's? FYI, I tried slipstreaming IE8 in by itself using Vista-Tool and it worked fine. It's after adding the update pack that it goes into the endless restarting loop. Either one works fine alone but when combined is when it messes up. I'm not sure which update causes it, but something is.

Try removing the old IE7 updates as this can sometimes lead to all kind of problems if slipped after ie8 integration.
This happens because when you slip the IE8 and then the IE7 updates vista automatically uninstalls the IE7 updates during windows setup, then tries to re-install them. But because IE8 is installed it cant re-install the IE7 updates so loops untill it installs.

The same thing happens if you try to install Media Centre updates on a non Ehome system, And the same again for Ultimate extras on non Ultimate systems.

By doing this you can also save space and size of overall image.

If half the number of these updates are superseeding others, could you please tell us here which ones to delete. I still get Windows6.0-KB963027-x64 after installing all updates in the packs available here ?? I downloaded 963027 manually because it is not in the pack, and slipped with the tool, but no result still Windows6.0-KB963027-x64 at WU after installing on a live machine an in VMWare.

@Fragbert
It also seems that:
KB963027 - Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer ( supersedes KB961620 )
Maybe someone could confirm this, i didn't find anything on MS KB.
If true, thanks Saladin for this explanation

(my problem is solved anyway).

Are there list of updates from this pack, which we should remove, if integrating IE8?

It isnt just a matter of IE7 updates importing MCE updates on say vista starter will mean that they cant be installed and will fail. This fail alond can be enough for the installation to be corrupt.

The first post tells you exactly for wich versions of Vista the packs are.
So IF people read, they would know.
And the MCE update pack is already up to date since that update came out ;)

I have a small request for Vista-tool 2.0. Could you add a command
"%ERRORLEVEL%" and if this returns anything but 0, then there should be an error box and the image is unmounted and disposed as this is the reason that some installations are being corrupted. (Some updates are for different locales ie the Natural Languages Update.)
I have found by running these packs using waik that one or two updates dont import and fail thus corrupting the install. But then again the updates that fail dont fail on all SKU's or locales.

Here's the entire Windows Update list after only integrating IE8. This list includes the recommended updates also. I find it a little odd that IE7 updates are being found, and not even the IE8 update that is normally found in WU after installing it via setupcomplete.cmd. IE8 seems to work fine after integrating it though, so I'm not sure what the deal is.

Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 (no updates) + IE7 (original). List of updates saved. Then installed IE8 & get new updates list.

Updates showed with IE7 only:

Code: Select all

KB915597, KB963027
Updates showed only after IE8 installation:

Code: Select all

KB947864, KB953838, KB968220

Strange , seems to be working fine here.
More people have this?
Problem & solution! When I opened .EXE in HEX-editor, I saw string "C:\Windows\system32\drivers\wimfltr.sys" (in unicode), but my Windows installed in other directory (C:\WIN_XP). Temporary solution - create C:\Windows\system32\drivers\ folder & copy wimfltr.sys into it.
P.S.: Programs must use %WINDIR% instead of C:\WINDOWS :)
Most probbly know of this is only a problem if the latest Waik is already installed..
You can do the the same from installing the "wimfltr.inf" from an earlier version of the waik so long as "wimfltr.sys" is in the same directory.

They are ready, but not published at this time. MSDN & Connect aren't fastest ways for getting the images.
There are RTM only, but same (byte-to-byte) SP will be published soon. Official presentation of SP2 for Vista & Server 2008 - at MS Tech-Ed (11-15 May, Los Angeles).

With this script the language pack is slipstreamed in both install.wim and boot.wim. Now the installation procedure itself is also localized in your language.

Code: Select all

@Echo Off
Echo Enter path to Windows AIK:
Echo Example: C:\Program Files\Windows AIK
Set /p WAIK=
Echo.
Echo Enter path for mounting WIM file:
Echo Example: D:\VistaWork\Mount
Set /p WIM=
Echo.
Echo Enter path to directory with Vista DVD copied:
Echo Example: D:\VistaWork\DVD
Set /p WD=
Echo.
Echo Enter path to language pack:
Echo Example: D:\VistaWork\LP\lp.cab
Set /p LP=
Echo.
Echo Enter path for extracting the language pack:
Echo Example: D:\VistaWork\LPEXT
Set /p ELP=
Echo.
Echo Enter language pack ID:
Echo Example: en-US
Set /p LANG=
Echo.
Echo Select the Vista edition:
Echo Example: 1
Echo 1 - BUSINESS
Echo 2 - HOMEBASIC
Echo 3 - HOMEPREMIUM
Echo 4 - ULTIMATE
Echo 5 - BUSINESSN
Echo 6 - HOMEBASICN
Echo 7 - STARTER
Set /p EDITION=

I dont think it's dead it's just windows 7 will be released in a few weeks so we are getting ready for it. Updating programmes and time is short these days.

i understand that but we cant maintain vista update packs and code programmes for W7 and lead normal day to day lives all at the same time its just not possible. Also Muiz mentioned a few posts up that other people could maintain the vista update packs if they so wish. as we are short of time.

Okay, I've got a question. (Please don't flame me!) I have a Vista Home Premium SP1 DVD. In order to update it to SP2, do I need the Post-SP1 update pack as well? I know that the XP Update Packs don't require patches from post-SP1 to be integrated prior to SP2 integration, but is it the same with Vista? Thanks!

EDIT: Can you also add the answer to this question to the first post so that everybody knows? It would be appreciated! Thanks!

It's the same with Vista. So no, you don't need any post-SP1 update packs. ;)
