This is a list of popular applications proved to work in Windows 2000. Some of them still support the OS officially, some are not supported but work, others may require unofficial kernel and/or other modifications in order to run. Some of the programs may require UURollup (ENU). If there is no version listed it means that all versions are compatible.

Do you, or anyone else that you are aware of, plan to store the updates that MS removes so that folks will be able to download them at a future time? Or at least is there a list available, complete with links, of all the Win2K updates that we should all download it we ever want to have them later? From Bristols I suppose? I haven't looked lately, lazy I know.

Cheers and Regards

Bristols is the ultimate source :)

I'm going to upload everything to a separate SkyDrive account so everyone will be able to easily browse the list and download them. At the moment I've got ~5000 HBRs on my HDD but I still need to download the public ones. I'm talking about files for all supported languages, not only ENU. There are a lot of files but the great majority of them are very small in size so it shouldn't be a problem to store everything in one place.

Update!

Many of the removed updates seem to be still available to download from MS Update Catalog! The website is IE-only and the download speed is not very fast but at least it does work!

Also the Catalog seems to be the only option to download Win2k updates (not only the removed ones but all updates) for Japanese NEC98. You can't access them from the public M$ site because even if you select JPN (NEC) the site will still link you to the x86 version of the update.

It might just be a general stuff up, for instance Windows Defender can no longer be found on the Microsoft Download Center and XP is still well and truly supported.

I don't think so. XP is in the extended phase of support which means that only security fixes released after SP3 "must" be provided. Windows Defender doesn't belong to them.

@Kurt_Aust

It seems that you were at least partially right. Some of the removed updates have been restored. UR1, MSI 3.1 and some others (but not all of them) are available again to download from M$ Download Center. I'll update the above list soon, and also add an alternative source for downloading Win2k related files.

I have finally managed to sort and upload all M$ official updates to an alternative server! In the end I've chosen Dropbox because its automatic synchronisation is way better than the one offered by Google Drive. The files can be easily browsed and downloaded from the server and no registration is required to do so :) Please check #1 for more information or just click here:

Windows 2000 Archive

There are 8210 / 10.2 GB files related to official updates there. The updates are available to download in all languages including versions for Japanese NEC98 which cannot be normally downloaded from M$ official servers any more.
