.NET Framework 1.1 in Win7
.NET Framework 1.1 in Win7
For those of you trying to install legacy applications, you may find it frustrating that it blindly looks for .NET 1.1 and not anything else (despite the fact that 2.0-3.5 supersedes 1.1 and installs the 1.1 files anyway). It needs to have 1.1 registered as "installed" on the system somehow.
I found this blogger's post helpful:

However, if you read the comments, many are frustrated that theirs couldn't work because they didn't follow the directions carefully. One crucial detail left out is the fact that once you slipstreamed the .NET 1.1 with the SP1 files, you can't move or save only the patched file and run it elsewhere. You must keep all of the "garbage" working files for this to install right or you will get "unable to find file" errors.
So to save everyone the hassle of downloading and patching themselves, I created a WinRAR SFX installer that you can just click on and it'll do its thing in one go. Of course you can always patch yourself if you're paranoid and want to get unequivocally clean files from MS.
Note when installing on x64 systems, Windows will complain that it's not compatible, but it installs fine. Also, for x86 users having concerns that it might cause problems, it shouldn't. I did an "in place" upgrade from Vista to 7 and it didn't complain about .NET 1.1 being installed or needs to be removed during the compatibility checks. FYI, Vista comes with .NET 1.1 installed (as well as the newer ones).
This has only been tested on my systems, please comment if it works or not!

Also, there is a KB953297 hotfix for .NET 1.1 SP1. You will need to install this separately after installing .NET 1.1. You can download it here.

Those legacy applications need to be burned and/or destroyed. In addition to 1.1 not being compatible with Win7, .net 1.1 is outdated and very useless. If there is seriously a program written sloppily enough to require version 1.1 *only*, then you need to find a better program.
Out with the old, in with the new.
Out with the old, in with the new.

It will be soon enough. I do not know anyone who still uses Win95/98 or even Me. Yet I still have some install disks for those OSes. They are past their usefulness. Soon, XP will also be in a similar situation. All of the programs that *only* work with XP will be outdated soon enough.5eraph wrote:Should the same be said of nLite soon, which only works with .NET 2.0?
Just saying...
