Post by cold95 » Wed Jan 18, 2006 6:16 pm

also anyone have suggestion or ideas on some how to compressing it more. ultra compression was used to make the .7z like the guide says to use but everything else is standard compression in the .cab file

That is a rather large file, sure if you want to upload it, I'll give it shot...

WOW I am impressed! Nice job there cold95!

I was wondering why nobody had released an OpenOffice pack yet. Been using OpenOffice for 5 or 6 years now and I totally love it. My only grouch about it is that it installs by feault to US language settings and I have to tweak it to UK english (that's QUEENS english to you americanos - the english language like it's meant to be spoken :P)

Can you tell us please if your source files for this were the OOo installer or John Haillers portable OOo. Haillers version has the files already UPXed and so the total size is way smaller, in case you weren't aware of that. Just mentioning that cos you seemed concerned about download size.

And did you strip anything out of this build? Cos personally I always prune out the frilly bits like Gallery files and foreign language template to reduce the size of OOo for my USB drive, so I wouldn't care if you culled any of that stuff to reduce size.

Cheers m'dears :)

PS: oh, and is this version 2.0 (which was buggy as hell) or is it the latest 2.0.1?

That's good that you didn't remove anything because I'd love to use this pack but I leave everything in it for my son whom also uses it with his school work.

if your using a cab file there is a trick to getting smaller filesizes but.... there is a catch the resulting cab is compatible with very few archiving apps. example 7-zip, winzip, picozip, powerarchiver, will all error out when deflating the cab, but when using the right app such as winrar or the command based unrar, then it deflates nicely.

--edit almost forgot newest version of powerarchiver do support this type of cab file.

huh, lol sorry if im come off like a perfectionist im anything but, just ask kel, xable or siginet, when i first started posting and even up till today sometimes i make a complete ass of myself.

plus you dont have to worry about me, im no admin, thats xable, kel, siginet and ryans department, I like you simply want to do my best to help out this site which has made my life and my frequent reformats of multiple pc's a hell of a lot easier, with that i would like to say thanx to all the admins for the great job they have done so far. and thanx to ryan for his awesome pack.
