noob: Unable to add folder when trying to compress into .cab

Post by spooken » Tue Jan 24, 2006 2:17 am

Hi guys,
I've been long time lurker, first time poster here. Tried searching on this topic, but can't seem to find anything relevant.

Anyway, I tried my hand on making switchless installer .cab file. I'm facing problem that I can't add "SVCPACK" folder when I tried adding both Entries*.ini and the folder. It's either that or I can just add SVCPACK folder but not Entries*.ini file. Does anyone mind telling me how exactly you compress both things into a .cab file? I tried using Izarc and UltimateZip, both have the same problems.

Thanks....

CAB Tool on the MSFN forums is what RyanVM and others use. Unfortunately those forums have been down all day. :(

Strangely enough, that link will get you in. :?:

EDIT:

Just for you, it seems, the forums started working as I entered this reply. Spooky :D

EDIT:

And it's down again.

LOL...

Well I got the workaround. I'm still using Izarc, but instead of compressing into a .cab directly, I compress to .zip first, then I convert the .zip to .cab. Voila! Weird...but it works! A little hassle, maybe.

Thx anyway, 5eraph.

Well, just in case you want to try it out anyway, I managed to get through the forum to the site it's hosted on:

Good to hear you managed to work it out though. :)

hey!
cab tool may tell you 'invalid selection'
IZarch is crap. It wont add the .ini, only the folder...
I've tried 'em all.
one word:

TUGZip!

To install it silently, you must add reg entries and register the shell extension or the drop menu won't work, well worth the trouble!
anyway, uploaded mine:

Powerarchiver is what I used with the update pack before switching to CAB tool.

yah- powarc is nice.
New version needs key of course.
you can still find it at 'last freeware version'. I use freeware when posible.

Tugzip is one I overlooked for awhile... It has never been outdone in any of my compression tests, tight as any.
