To be honest I wasn't expecting it to work this well. It only took me about an hour to make it so far. :) The next step is to make it show some sort of progress and then I want to make it backup all the third party drivers and create a small DriverPack that can be used with Bashrats DriverPacks. This way a person can easily create their own recovery disk. :)

Looks nice. Does this backup all the source files needed for the driver install?

It would be real nice indeed if you build in a option to build a driverpack:D Than people dont need to use the quit big driver pack that are used for sound and video :D (Well those big packs are nice when you wont to make a good install on any kind of pc)

Siginet, how about printer drivers? It seems they are not collected.

(Canon i250 printer here.)

Oh this is beautiful man!
Thank you!

@buletov, I believe your printer needs to be on to capture the drivers. They need to be 'active'.

Yeah it should get printer drivers... the option is scanned for.
@rickendo If the cats aren't needed then I can tell drivergrabber to skip cat files. But we need to be sure they aren't needed first.

The .cat files are included in BTSs packs so I think we need to ask him.

@buletov Turning on the printer worked for me, I have a Canon Pixma iP1000

Do we still use DPBase to intergrate this into our XP Cd?

This isn't setup to create dps yet. It just copy's the files needed for your drivers to a directory for you.

Then we need to do a file compair on the real drivers and the ones grabbed and see what the differences are. ;)

I don't know if this was supposed to happen or if the file even exists anymore. The file txtsetup.oem was not copied to my SATA folder. I know I have to have this file to properly integrate my drivers and it is no big deal because I have the Drivers prepped in an archive already. I was just wondering if after setup they do exist and should the file then be copied.

Also it copied mr ATI Raedon drivers when they are the default MS ones...

Check the ATI Raedon inf and tell me what it says for:
[Version]
Provider=

As for the textsetup.oem... we need to look into how I can make sure this file gets copied over. Cause devcon.exe must not grab it. It probably doesn't grab it because it is for use with windows txtmode setup and not windows gui?

There's also the question of does the txtsetup.oem even get copied in any fashion to the HDD? Mine didn't, which is why I had to fall back to directly slipstreaming it into my source (I even made an addon to have integrator do it for me! heh.).

OK I'll add a check in the name for "Microsoft Corporation" If it exists in the name of the driver it is not grabbed. ;)

I'll also add a check for
[Version]
CatalogFile=

Is this where cats are allways copied to...?
%SystemRoot%\system32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}
That is where I find cats on my own system.

Ok just to update everyone, i intergrated with DPBase.exe like Ricktendo64 does in his post and it installed fine etc the only thing i couldnt get to work was my printer drivers, but that to me is not important, just as quick installing from cd.

Nice work everyone!

Was your printer on during install? It's not that important to me either... but I think it would be nice if the printer drivers worked. Were you able to install the printer after windows setup using the drivers that were backed up?

Expect v0.2 pretty soon... hopefully sometime later today. I just need verification from a few more people on the location of the cat files please.

BTW.. I need people to test it on 2k3 and 2k. Also see if it works fine on XP Home as well. Also check if the cat directory is the same on each windows.

Firstly, thankyou Siginet for doing this.

My WinXP Pro SP2 CAT directory:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}

Downloaded, switched on Printer (Canon I865) & scanner (DV 648U).

I'm not sure what detail you would like to see posted here, so I've tried to keep this fairly brief:

Missed or not processed/selected:

Image dir -- Empty (INF file is xpscan.inf)
Net dir -- Empty (I have onboard Intel PCI & 1394 network)

IntelliPoint (Class=Mouse),
IntelliType (Keyboard),
Sound WDM drivers (Media) Note the SoundMax Audio files were backed up.
Intel chipset drivers (System [in several several OEMxx.inf files])

Personally, I don't mind installing the Mouse/Keyboard/Printer/Scanner drivers AFTER I've installed windows ... I don't need the printer & scanner straight away & the mouse/keyboard work OK with the standard MS drivers (just not the extra keys).

Having the sound/graphic/usb/network/etc. drivers installed with Windows so that Device Manager has no ? is what *I'm* really interested in achieving.

Just a heads up, I'm using 2003 SP1 and the cat file location is the exact same as what was posted above. Not sure about 2000 though.
