"Longhorn" Codename Moves to Greener Pastures

Post by 5eraph » Fri Jul 22, 2005 11:44 am

Was googling a timetable for Windows XP SP3 and stumbled across this atricle describing the official new name for Microsoft's next OS:

Code: Select all

I haven't played with any of the longhorn builds circulating on the internet. I was wondering if anyone here has that's interested in giving their opinion.

On a more serious note, Vista changes the data format on the DVD considerably from previous versions. All of the setup files are packed in a ~850MB WIM file which no compression program I've seen can open.

That could make direct integration extremely difficult :(

don`t know how much truth is in it but, heard the wim setup is just while it`s in alpha/beta stage and it`l be the usual I386 when it`s released.

Microsoft could also make future hotfixes directly integrate-able and make our lives much easier, but it seems unlikely though...
