Windows Media Edition CD; combining all CD's onto one DVD

Post by Diskgrind » Wed Nov 08, 2006 1:33 am

Hello everyone,
Being this is one of my first posts, I had to search and search to find out if it had already been posted, I hope it hasnt.
And if it has, I'm sorry for rehashing it.
My topic/question is; Can all of the install disks for MCE be combined onto one DVD in order to add addtional installation software.I have seen multi-CD game packages combined to a DVD, I thought I would ask about MCE.

Thanks much!

Both answers are very useful! Thanks to both of you.
I wasnt sure if Nlite could do it since I couldnt find any topic about MCE. Can you give me any addittional tips as to the proceedure of combining using Nlite? I will post my outcome.

Thanks again,

Successfully combined both MCE CD's using the latest version of Nlite.
Next task is to integrate latest updates and additional programs for an unattended install.

Trust me, it is no task. A brain dead monkey could do it in an instant. Hardest part is waiting for that download to finish. So many updates...soo many updates...

Your right about the updates, however, I used Ryans main pack and the post SP2 pack from boogy, I got a few double up errors like choices to take newer or older file as Nlite integrated. But I will go back to the drawing board and take it slower a step at a time. I'm still new to this. I have a completely unattended DVD for My personal XP pro, so I am following it as an example. If anyone is interested, I can produce a log of my MCE update, integrate prodeedures if wanted. Probably need to find that thread here in the forums to help whom ever I can with what I can contribute.

Thanks again,

extract all packs into one folder and expand all the cabbed files...then do a search in those files for the file name as text in the file

After these errors, I let the install take its course and found that many start menu features are missing. As I said before, I think I'll back up and take it step by step. I'm just impatient.

Ok I backed it up a step or three,.. So, combining both CD's from the MCE install pack I then integrated just
RVMUpdatePack2.1.3.7z
RVMAddons_1.7.2.7z
So after integrating these packs, my question is what do I do with the extra update pack from the 3rd disk that comes with the OEM set of disks? Or can I integrate it after Ryans' stuff, or when, what? Yeah Im just looking for an easy answer with out having to check all the KB files for comparison. Thanks everyone.

Well to cap things off, I finally took it slow and incremetally checking my grogress and found my mistakes along the way. Great learning experience putting this together for another new computer. Although I didnt get much feedback along these lines, probably because I didnt report well enough what I was actually doing along the way and why I was doing this. I have integrated sata drivers, Win 2000, Win Serv 2003 and all the flavors of XP. I do alot of installs for my friends and family and I enjoy learning about computers and software.

Um, your DEFS.REF error is part of Adaware...
It is the main definition file for it, maybe it didn't download during slipstream (if ur using the auto-update when slipstreamed addon i've seen around here).

hum u have to grasp the concept that mce has 3 cds but its jsut to accomodate users with cd rom drives(they added the roll up update disc recently to the whole shebang)
u probably figured out by now that you have to take the folder from disc 2 and drop it in the rootdir of the 1st cd.
now for the 3rd cd(witch are the updates... old ones too).
ull have to extract the WindowsXPMediaCenter2005-KB900325-usa.exe to a folder and pick certain updates to get installed via t13 (svcpack) or t12(cmdlines) and the rest will have to be installed via the runonce part of the setup.

svcpack comaptible files:

WindowsXP-KB895961-x86.exe
WindowsXP-KB899510-x86.exe
WindowsXP-KB899337-v2-x86.exe
WindowsXP-KB902841-x86.exe - please note that the packaged rollup 2 update u have are old
WindowsXP-KB888795-x86.exe -and ull note that i have added more hotfixes for mce than
WindowsXP-KB891593-x86.exe -originaly packaged.u can go dl them for an uptodate install.
wmfdist95.exe
WindowsXP-KB918997-v6-x86-ENU.exe

here is my cmd file to add to svcpack:

@echo off

Title installing mce 05 rollup 2 updates

echo begining the process...plz wait

start /wait wmfdist95.exe /Q:A /R:N /c:"wmsetsdk.exe /WMFDIST /Q /R:N /DisallowSystemRestore"
start /wait WindowsXP-KB891593-x86.exe /quiet /norestart
start /wait WindowsXP-KB895961-x86.exe /quiet /norestart
start /wait WindowsXP-KB899337-v2-x86.exe /quiet /norestart
start /wait WindowsXP-KB899510-x86.exe /quiet /norestart
start /wait WindowsXP-KB888795-x86.exe /quiet /norestart
start /wait WindowsXP-KB902841-x86.exe /quiet /norestart
start /wait WindowsXP-KB918997-v6-x86-ENU.exe /quiet /norestart

echo Done!

echo.
exit

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

runonceex compatible files:

KB900325.exe
WindowsXP-KB912024-v2-x86-ENU.exe
WindowsXPMediaCenter2005-KB919803-ENU.exe
WindowsXPMediaCenter2005-KB914548-ENU.exe
WindowsXPMediaCenter2005-KB925766-ENU.exe
WindowsMedia10-KB913800-x86-ENU.exe

here is my cmd file to add these to runonce:

@echo off

Title mce rollup2 runonce updates

echo begining the process

echo.
echo Starting mce rollup 2 runonce updates installation plz wait...

start /wait KB900325.exe /quiet /norestart
start /wait WindowsXP-KB912024-v2-x86-ENU.exe /quiet /norestart
start /wait WindowsXPMediaCenter2005-KB914548-ENU.exe /quiet /norestart
start /wait WindowsXPMediaCenter2005-KB919803-ENU.exe /quiet /norestart
start /wait WindowsXPMediaCenter2005-KB925766-ENU.exe /quiet /norestart
start /wait WindowsMedia10-KB913800-x86-ENU.exe /quiet /norestart

echo Done!

echo.
exit

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i hope this helps you,ive ben using this method for a year and mce updates dont appear in windows updates as they are all up to date.

oh and i forgot to add that this is compatible with integratign almost any addons,ie7(sielnt install@runonce),wmp11(use boogys tweaked install) .nothign will break or not get installed if u run teh above files at their respective install times(windows media player mce edition is fonctional even after integratign the wmp11 addon).be sure to use ryan vm's integrator for ure updates packs and addons, i dotn recommend using nlite for any steps of this as nlite adds specific settings by default without the user knowing ....witch is a real pain is the @ss

Thanks for the very clear answer, I really appreciated it a great deal. I understood most of it before hand but the last pack left me a little confused. I also want to thank you for the command lines. You Rock!

thanks

Hello,
I understand how to get the runonce running right, but please explain more about svpack.ini? Or at the end you explained some could be integrated with RyanVM's program, is that right? I have entirely switched to using Ryans program now as it seems to be the least buggy for me to try and figure out the problems. I am Diskgrind@msn.com

thnsks.

Hello again,
bober101, can you be detailed about your course of integration?
I use Ryan's program;
slipstream post sp2 updates,
then I add all the extras I like,
How exactly do I add the ones you talked about?
Sorry to be so novice, but I am still learning these things and want to understand as much of the proceedure as I can.

Thanks again,
Ken aka Diskgrind
