What is RIS install?
hello.lespea.Thanks for reply but i am new to forum and i don't what is RIS install. Can you are anyone can tell me something more.Actually I have seen an XP ghost cd that works great on every pc.
Re: What is RIS install?
I seriously doubt you've seen every possible hardware combination in existance, which already is virtually impossible to do with an unattended installation. Anyway, the ghost image you've seen was probably a RIS setup, from which the mini-setup was captured with ghost.Jamshed_11946 wrote:Actually I have seen an XP ghost cd that works great on every pc.
That "ghosted" CD could have been a 'syspreped' image. What that means is before it was "ghosted", they ran the program sysprep on it.
It is kind of like presetting up a computer to be exactly the way you want and then removing all of the hardware information to work on any computer. Sysprep is a microsoft product also.

with Acronis Echo Workstation and the Universal Restore addon you can image a system and then have it write back to another drive in another hardware profile system.

Yes it can be done. Acronis True Image Echo is the best example.
Basically what needs to be done is a script must be executed during the restore which changes the HAL information in the files to match that of your pc.
I haven't tested this much:
but I think... if I understand it correctly... OfflineSysprep is your answer.

It does the legwork for you. It will make your files hardware independent.
Using this and then utalizing driverpacks would make a truly universal image.
