I'd post them in the open, but if I've made a bonehead mistake and the entries get out into the wild, people who don't know any better are sure to try and use them.......

can I take the hex(2) value definitions and use 'normal' quoted test instead?

That would depend on what program was trying to read them. The reason they are set up in that way is due to the actual data type they are trying to employ. Normal string values could be quoted, however if some data is required in binary format for a program to read it, then the hex(2) method is required.

For all intents and purposes, you should not convert one registry data format to another unless the programs reading that data are set to read the new format.

Edit: The "DriverCachePath" entry is to be a REG_EXPAND_SZ value. I think that may be how that entry is inputted.
