Rewiring Start Menu Search option to 3rd-party program - possible?

Post by marzsyndrome » Sun Apr 17, 2011 11:29 am

To put it bluntly, Windows 7's own search function is lame. I wish to use a more classic search function like what 'Everything' provides, but rather than have to remember to run a link to it, it'd be quite cool if I could still click the built-in Search option and have it load the alternative search program instead. Is there anything in the registry that can be adjusted to do this?

You'd probably have better luck reassigning the global hotkey combo for it: winkey+f.

Just "untick" the option to show search in the start menu & then drag a shortcut to your own 3rd party program in its place in the menu. ;)
