I've already checked it before and it should be possible to port the thing for XP/2003. It's just an updated version of .NET Framework 4.0. Some files will need to have their dependencies fixed though.

I'm thinking about a true addon type of installation :)

So .NET 4.0 is gone and is replaced by .NET 4.5?
Isn't that what they said about the other .net installers? :?

As noted above, 4.5 doesn't officially support XP so you will still need 4.0 for that. Also, I read somewhere that there is no client for 4.5. I don't know how accurate that is though.

Don't have an XP OS on hand to check dependency. Let me see what I can help.

@yumeyao

I checked the dependencies on the .NET Framework 4.5 RC some time ago. I don't remember which files had problems exactly.

Would you guys mind checking vc++ 2012 for XP compatibility?

Might need to install it on Windows 7 to get the files, because the installer fails to install on XP

Code: Select all

[0968:0038][2012-08-19T09:23:12]: Condition 'VersionNT >= v6.1 OR (VersionNT = v6.0 AND ServicePackLevel >= 2)' evaluates to true.

Code: Select all

mfc110.dll
mfc110chs.dll
mfc110deu.dll
mfc110enu.dll
mfc110esn.dll
mfc110fra.dll
mfc110ita.dll
mfc110jpn.dll

@ricktendo64

Would it be a problem for you to just upload the files somewhere so that we can easily check them under 2K/XP?

Thanks. I've just checked them in Win2k.

1) First of all, we can get rid of the useless stuff, i.e.

Code: Select all

mfc110chs.dll
mfc110deu.dll
mfc110enu.dll
mfc110esn.dll
mfc110fra.dll
mfc110ita.dll
mfc110jpn.dll
mfc110kor.dll
mfc110rus.dll
mfc110cht.dll
2) After that we're left with:

Code: Select all

atl110.dll
mfc110.dll
mfc110u.dll
mfcm110.dll
mfcm110u.dll
msvcp110.dll
msvcr110.dll
vcamp110.dll
vccorlib110.dll
vcomp110.dll
3) Of the these:

atl110.dll
- kernel32.dll: FlsAlloc (2K3+), FlsFree (2K3+), FlsGetValue (2K3+), FlsSetValue (2K3+), GetTickCount64 (Vista+), InitOnceExecuteOnce (Vista+), LCMapStringEx (Vista+)

mfc110.dll
- kernel32.dll: ApplicationRecoveryFinished (Vista+), ApplicationRecoveryInProgress (Vista+), GetLocaleInfoEx (Vista+), GetThreadPreferredUILanguages (Vista+), GetTickCount64 (Vista+), InitializeCriticalSectionEx (Vista+), RegisterApplicationRecoveryCallback (Vista+), RegisterApplicationRestart (Vista+)
- user32.dll: ChangeWindowMessageFilter (Vista+)
- shell32.dll: InitNetworkAddressControl (Vista+), SHCreateItemFromParsingName (Vista+), SHGetKnownFolderPath (Vista+)

That's it for now (no time to check the rest). That's a lot of dependency issues. Too many :(

BlackWingCat has added MS VC++ 2012 dependencies to his kernel extension so now it's possible to run applications compiled in VS2012 under Windows 2000.

Does anyone know of any possible way to unpack the Visual C++ redistributables under NT 5.x?

Actually you can always get .NET framework runtime prior to it's release - download the Visual Studio xxxx Express ISO and you can get it from the ISO.

@tomasz86
haven't tried but if needed, I could try unpacking it under win 7 and upload for u.

@yumeyao

I've got access to Windows 7 so you needn't bother (thank you anyway) but I was just wondering whether there exists any method to extract the files without having to use another OS, not only this time but also in the future.

No. .NET 4.0 is the latest version of .NET that will function on XP.

Cheers and Regards
