Post by dgelwin » Tue Dec 13, 2005 9:40 pm

Lets see here are the details.
---UPDATED--- 15/Jan/2006, 7:04 PM GMT -600---
Addon for MSN Messenger 7.5.322 build date 4/Jan/06

Made couple changes to the vanilla msn last night,
releasing modded msn.

Information on messenger found
HERE

Vanilla MSN
its what it says its a vanilla copy of MSN Messenger, no modifications made, upgradable, uninstallable.

MD5 = 3CC6E64A7A551D3201124E1F4090CE10

-----------------------------
Modded MSN Messenger
details down below
download
HERE
MD5 = 55F6D632FDC1FDAE3F1A3447B0FCC73C

MODIFICATIONS
--Removed all text and graphical advertisements, microsoft just pisses me off with how it assumes just because i dont have a web cam connected i dont own one, and are offering to sell me one.
--Added couple custom games
--Added an icon for my received files in the chat windows
--Increased the amount of text that can be sent at once to 1000 or 500 dont remember which.
--Added polygamy ability so you can open more than one messenger at a time.
--Disabled the nudge protection so you can annoy the hell out of your friends sending crazy amounts of nudges.
--Also removed the nudge window shake, you will hear the sound but you no longer have to worry about the window poping up over your work just because someone nudges you.
--Added ability to double click the display picture to change it.
--Removed all adverts from emoticon, winks and display picture menues.
--Added the always on top option to the option menue.
--Replaced the default audio codec usage when sending quick voice messages to ogg, if messenger detects its present on the other machine. if not it uses the default wma audio.
--Added ability to chat when invisible with people (hahaha so okay this one isnt true, but i wish i knew how lol then i really would have added it).

All the info on how to do these modifications can be found over the web, and seeing as how i made this addon with me in mind i added the ones i like, if you would like to add your own feel free. just dont pm me asking how.
google and mess.be are your friends. and dont start flaming me saying google is not my friend, im answering you from now saying its not my fault you treated them bad in highschool and they dont like you now. :lol:

Does this addon replaces windows messenger with MSN Messenger? I always use MessengerDisable to unassociate windows messenger from outlook express before installing msn messenger.

It doesn't "replace" it, it just adds it.

@larciel yes its build 7.5.311.
@rekoil yes i know of that patch it allow you also to speak with people whom you have blocked. but it does not allow you to have your status invisible and still be able to chat :(.
@amirali_esh I would have replaced messenger if i could but i got so many errors when i tried and i was getting a headacke. i think i found a way to replace it but it would have to wait until microsoft updates their software thats when ill do a next release. also what is messengerdisable can you explain? i always wanted to disable outlook express opening messenger just never knew how.

Windows Setup can be instructed not to install Windows Messenger by adding the following entry to WINNT.SIF:

Code: Select all

[Components]
    msmsgs="Off"
No reference to Windows Messenger will exist in the Start Menu or your Program Files folder. :)

It's not beta, it's QFE... It will never be released publicly. Microsoft is full time working on Windows Live Messenger, that QFE is just to fix some minor issues in .0311, mostly sign-in problems.

warrior1109, dgelwin can just download .0320 from Mess.be?

Btw dgelwin, you don't need .0320 for .0322. The patch for .0322 is from .0311 to .0322, just wait a day or so and keep checking Mess.be if you want to stay updated.

ok in that case ill just releas 0319 for now, that way whoever really needs it would have it.

but i do have one question, thanks to amirali_esh i found a way of replacing the messenger that comes with windows, my question is this, should i replace it, or should i leave it?

There doesn't come any MSN Messenger with Windows. The only thing that comes with Windows is that crappy Windows Messenger. In the future both will be replaced by Windows Live Messenger.

ViVa

Post by ViVa » Wed Dec 14, 2005 12:36 pm

Btw, I see you made a few modifications too. Ever heard of A-Patch? Might come in handy for your addon. I think it's the best of its kind, and immediately updated when an update of MSN appears. It also supports Windows Live Messenger beta versions.

ViVa tnx for the info actually i had never heard of it b4. ill check it out now, i actually had time to update to 0320 so im testing that right now.
@amirali_esh thats why i asked the question above that no one seems to answer, because i have found a way to replace it but i would like to know if people think i should replace it, or just leave it there?

Well in my opinion I don't see any reason to keep it when MSN messenger offers a lot more functionality.

ViVa

Post by ViVa » Wed Dec 14, 2005 1:23 pm

amirali_esh, Windows Messenger serves another purpose as MSN Messenger. Windows Messenger is meant for business use. It has got nothing todo with each other. In the next version there won't be any difference: Windows Live Messenger.

@DisabledTrucker, I meant there won't be any Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger, just Windows Live Messenger.

@dgelwin, like I told you, they are 2 different things, so for my part there is no point in 'replacing' it.

@ViVa you have a good point, what i will do instead is make 2 releases, one for replacing and one that dont, because me personally i dont like it. so i will 2 versions one normal that dont replace messenger for everyone. and one that does for me :D

@rekoil, actually it does work, what screws things up bad is when your like me, and you sign into your yahoo account and open the invite, while checking your girlfriends hotmail account, seeing as how you need to sign in to accept the invite, and her hotmail was alrady signed in, well you can figure how this sad story ended. :(
