Re: [Addon] Internet Explorer 8 for 32-bit XP 1.5.36
Is there any utility that can automatically remove all KB files and associated registry entries related to IE8 upddates? I have Acronis partition image backups to use in case of any problems after an update and never perform any update rollbacks using those KB files (Add or Remove Programs).
The following files and registry subkeys can most likely be safely removed:
I'm not sure if it is safe to remove any of the subkeys shown below:
I use Windows XP Update Remover to clean-up KB files of other POSReady updates but that tool will only recognize KB files and registry entries placed in standard locations. It won't recognize IE8 updates because, it seems, they are placed in some custom locations.
For the record, Windows XP Update Remover can be found here:
http://www.tech-pro.net/windows-update-remover.html
And the manual clean-up method is described below:
http://www.tech-pro.net/how-to-remove-n ... lders.html
I also used ZSoft Uninstaller to identify file and registry changes made during KB update installation:
https://www.zsoft.dk/index/software_details/6
The following files and registry subkeys can most likely be safely removed:
Code: Select all
C:\Windows\ie8updates\kb*-ie8
C:\Windows\kb*-ie8.log
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache\KB*-IE8
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\KB*-IE8
Code: Select all
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP0\KB*-IE8
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\HotFix\KB*-IE8

Re: [Addon] Internet Explorer 8 for 32-bit XP 1.5.36
Question: When using the "fix addon" for the setuperr.log, do I integrate that addon BEFORE or AFTER ie8 addon? I'm using nLite to integrate them.
Re: [Addon] Internet Explorer 8 for 32-bit XP 1.5.36
Doesn't matter, shhnedo. The fix addon edits SysSetup.inf to comment out the troublesome file entries, not the files themselves for IE8.

10-4! Thank you!

Re: [Addon] Internet Explorer 8 for 32-bit XP 1.5.42
Thanks for taking the trouble to make the final update for the Internet Explorer 8 addon. I was going to do it myself, because 5ereph has obviously lost interest in XP, so you saved me the trouble.
XP FOREVER!
Re: [Addon] Internet Explorer 8 for 32-bit XP 1.5.42
Dibya did not make a good job of updating the Internet Explorer 8 addon because he had not revised ie.inf. In the [CumSecUp] section the entries were for KB4457426 which would produce errors with qfecheck and SFC. These are my builds of the addon that replace the cumulative security update KB4457426 with KB4493435. This is the last cumulative security update for IE8 released for POSReady 2009, so there will be no further builds of this addon.

I discovered that KB4457426 and KB4457426 have the practically same registry settings except for the entries in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\HotFix, and HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP. Therefore only the entries in the [CumSecUp] section needed to be updated, plus a few trivial entries in HKCU.
